Magliano Alfieri

The historical centre of Magliano was built on the crest of the hill; the recent part of the village is down the main road for Asti.

It is characterized by the impressive castle, dated back to the 18th century, which belonged to the Alfieri family. The big building is now owned by the commune.

On the folk side, we point out the choir, known for having rediscovered old songs and ballads.

History

Along the Tanaro river the Roman village of “Mallianum” was built.

It was one of the most important villages in this area, and lately around it many findings have been found, such as mosaics, vases, coins.

In the Middle Ages the town was moved on the top of a hill and a castle was built, presumably around the year 996; in 1200 it became a feud of the Alfieri family; in 1600 they built the present castle.
