Vezza d’Alba

The town of Vezza is made by three villages.

Borbore is built on the road that goes from Alba to Turin.

From here start the roads leding to Borgonuovo and Villa, the oldest one, built on the top of a hill.

In the historical centre there’s the interesting parish church, dedicated to Saint Martin, (built in the second half of the seventeenth century), while on the top of the hill, among woods and vineyards, stands the sanctuary of the Madonna dei Boschi.

History

The name “Vezza” comes from the ancient Vettia family.

The Liguri tribes in the stone age already loved the beauty of this land, as did the Romans, who used to come here on holiday.

The town acquired a relative importance in the Middle Ages, when it was owned by the Church of Asti, that gave it to the De Ponte family in 1401.

Only some ruins are left of the ancient castle, where the Roero di Vezza e Guarene lived from 1401 until the end of the eighteenth century.

Cascina Sòt is located in Monforte d'Alba
