Cortemilia – Near the Uzzone river, in a wonderful place surrounded by silence and vineyards, there’s the little romanic church of Saint Mary.
It’s believed that in this building, built in the XI-XIII century and later modified, spent some time Saint Francis, going from Savona to Asti on the biggest road of the time, the Via Magistra Langarum.
The apse, decorated with arches and statues, and the bell tower with its windows, are typical examples of the romanic tradition in the Langhe.
In the one nave of the church there’s a bas-relief carved in sandstone, made between the VII and the IX century (the Virgin Mary on a throne with the Child).
