Oratory of the Holy Annunziata

in Sinio

The oratory of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Sinio, originally the seat of worship of the Brotherhood of the DisciplinantiWhite Flagellants – was built during the first forty years of the seventeenth century, replacing the pre- existing one and already functional in 1643.

The structure of the historic building is set on a single nave with supporting arches at the vaults and a quadrangular apse.

From 1821 to 1825, it temporarily replaced the parish church in its functions.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, the façade was reshaped, connecting it to the adjacent buildings.

The Theatre Hall

By the end of the 1920s, the place of worship was briefly transformed into a theatre hall, also transferring the functions of the Brotherhood to the chapel of St. Sebastiano.

With a remarkable working and financial commitment, between 1985 and 1990, as well as in 2003, the interior and the adjacent rooms were renovated.

Therefore, the oratory was fully adapted to a theatre hall where the Compagnia del Nostro Teatro di Sinio (Theatre Company), constituted in 1981 and directed by Oscar Barile, is fairly active.

In 1989, a remarkable work of art, Stage-effect, painted by Walter Accigliaro, was also installed here.

The ceramic decoration around the entrance of the façade was created by Bruno Demasi, built in 2006.
