Mombaldone

Dip in the gullies, Mombaldone is a little medieval jewel, the only village in the Langa Astigiana still surrounded by original walls; it hasn’t changed its structure since its foundation.

Walking down its only main road, from which alleys and passages, arcades and courtyards take their origin, means to travel back trough time.

Here, in the alluvial plain of Bormida, you can still find armours and rifles of French soldiers commanded by Napoleon, against whom this village, alone, opposed a strong resistance, while the entire Piemont opened its doors to the victorious army.

Mombaldone shows its historical origins in its displays and in the carved portals of its buildings.

History

The village is first referred to in the year 991, when the Aleramics gave some land, including Mombaldone, to the monastery of S. Quintino di Spigno.

The town was a property of the marquis Del Carretto di Savoia during the whole Middle Ages, then was given to the town of Asti.

Finally, the Savoia family bought the feud and gave it a long and peaceful period, interrupted only by the wars against Napoleon.

Cascina Sòt is located in Monforte d'Alba
