The Marco Capra farm is located on the hills of Seirole, in the municipality of Santo Stefano Belbo about 6 km from Canelli.
The road that reaches the winery is a succession of scenic bends that embrace the Langhe and Monferrato, in an alternation of vineyards, woodlands and small villages recognizable by ancient towers, castles and churches.
An evocative landscape that reaches its peak in October and November.
The foliage dyes the vineyards with the warmest colors and the morning mists lay like a thin veil on the soft shapes of these hills.
The territory is the heart of Pavese’s places: Santo Stefano Belbo is the town that gave birth and burial to the writer Cesare Pavese and is the setting in which his latest novel, “La Luna e i falò“, published in 1950, comes to life.
A story that
begins in 1945
in Santo Stefano Belbo
Marco represents the third generation of growers and introduces the fourth, already celebrated in the labels
The family-run winery, founded in 1945, is run first by Tommaso Capra, Tumasin in Piedmontese dialect, then by his son Luciano.
Until the end of the 1980s the primary activity concerned the production of quality wine aimed at wholesale sales in demijohns.
In 1999, with the entry into the company of Marco, Luciano's nephew, the winery not only took on a modern connotation, thanks to the enthusiasm and ideas of renewal, but took on a new name.
In fact, 2014 is the year in which Marco inserts his name on the label: no longer Azienda Agricola Sanmarco, but Azienda Agricola Marco Capra.
A significant choice respecting the family tradition, combined with the passion for the work of producer-grower gives a new impulse to the business.
The fourth and future generation is already present both on the designs of the labels and through the names of the bottles Seitremenda and Testanvisca, hothead in Piedmontese, wines dedicated to the children Elisabetta and Riccardo.
The Wines
Both in terms of architecture and winemaking systems, the winery guarantees a high level of grape processing
The company’s choice to mainly produce the native wines of Piedmont is dictated by the desire to rediscover the characteristics that the land can offer at every taste: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera and Moscato, but also Nascetta, a vine that had almost disappeared until a few years ago and recently rediscovered.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the cellar in special perforated boxes in order to guarantee the integrity of the grapes.
The labels recommended by Marco
The wines Marco is particularly attached to for emotional reasons are the “Seitremenda” Metodo Classico DOCG, a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and the Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC “Testanvisca”.
These are unique products as they are dedicated to the children Elisabetta and Riccardo.
The first, vinified with only the decanted free-run must, gives rise to a versatile wine to drink as an aperitif that goes well with any meal.
The second, with a broad and very persistent aroma, goes well with roasts, boiled meats and game, aged cheeses.
Moscato DOCG “Bricco delle Merende” is also an important wine as it is representative of the territory, ideal with any type of dessert and offers excellent company during conversation.
It is a wine that has brought this territory to be known worldwide, it is the wine of the party, loved even by the little ones for its sweet and slightly sparkling character.

A vine, a territory
Even the choice of the areas most suited to the cultivation of individual vines determines the quality of the final product
Marco Capra’s wine proposal consists of Piedmontese wines, whose plants are located in different areas of the Langhe and Roero.
How the soil affects production
Different types of soil, climate and exposure allow to obtain a diversified offer able to satisfy the palate of professionals in the sector and wine tourists.
The calcareous soil of the Santo Stefano Belbo and Costigliole d’Asti area where Moscato, Chardonnay, Nascetta, Dolcetto and Barbera are produced influences the root system of the vines.
The same are forced to go deep to capture microelements necessary for development, becoming stronger over time and bringing with them all the characteristics of the territory.
Santo Stefano Roero, with its particularly sandy soil, allows to obtain fine, fragrant and elegant wines.
The defense treatments of the vineyards are carried out by choosing products with a low environmental impact, in the most natural and eco-compatible way possible.
The people who make the company
All the operations, from the work in the vineyard to the shipment of the wines, are personally followed by Marco, assisted by the advice of the oenologists Daniela Serra and Dante Scaglione.
The phenological phases, relating to the life cycle of the plants and the annual operations in the vineyard are supervised by the agronomist Roberto Abate.
