Wine Producer in Castiglione Tinella

The Cerruti family has been cultivating Moscato Bianco of Canelli since 1800.

The activity of past generations has always been that of selling grapes: it is only in 2014 that Simone Cerruti, manager since 2005, decides to invest in a wine-making business, thus transforming a receptive structure in a winery.

The small company has 4.5 hectares of land, of which 3.5 of Moscato, and today it is developed in various sectors: restaurant, agri-camping, rooms with swimming pool and production of wine.

The Wines

The first wine produced, since the beginning in 2014, was the Moscato d'Asti DOCG, main reason for the decision to start making wine.

The territory of Castiglione Tinella is in fact extremely devoted to this vine, which expresses its maximum potential in this area by developing complexity and harmony.

Over time, this small production has been joined by Barbera d’Asti, Barbera d’Asti Superiore and Moscato Riserva grappa.

In June 2019 the latest addition will arrive on the market: “Nicchia“, a still white wine made from Moscato grapes, fermented and aged in wood – a challenge, because it is a new way of seeing a wine rooted in the local tradition.

Particular attention is given to the two Moscati: with the use of grapes from a single vineyard – a sorì with the best exposure and steep slope – exclusively manual works and the integrated pest control regime, the result is a wine of excellent quality.

Production to date is still limited but there is an opening to foreign markets: the intention is to focus increasingly on winemaking and wine tourism.

Visits & Tastings

Given the varied proposal of Agriturismo Ai Ciuvin, a visit to the cellar can lead to lunch or even an overnight stay.

Two types of tours have been designed, which can be adapted according to the needs of the individual group.

Basic tour

For a duration of about 90 minutes, the simple tour focuses on wine production, starting from the history of the area to the tasting.

Weather permitting you will start with a walk in the vineyard, during which the main characteristics of the Moscato and the terroir of Castiglione Tinella will be described.

Then you’ll visit the agricultural museum in the cellar, inside which are preserved ancient work tools and machinery.

At the end of the visit you will taste the entire range of production – including grappa – combined with appetizers.

Full tour

The other type is the complete tour, which in addition to the route described above also includes a meal, lunch or dinner based on the time, with 2 starters, 2 main courses, dessert, coffee, bitters.

This type is bookable only on weekends, Saturday or Sunday.

Not only wine

There are two passions that coexist in the very young Simone Cerruti: the one for the campaign, inherited from his father, and the one for the kitchen transmitted in his youth by his grandmother.

If the first is expressed today with wine production, we can say that the second one is expressed through the agriturismo.

At only 24 years of age, with the contribution of his mother Claudia, Simone opens the restaurant of which he becomes chef: with a proposal of local dishes revisited in a modern way, and menus varying according to seasonal ingredients, the kitchen offers the household charm.

Everything is cooked according to tradition, using raw materials of own production or purchased in Piedmontese companies.

The Moscateria

In 2017 another big challenge: transforming the winery into the first Moscateria, a registered trademark with the patronage of the Asti Consortium and the Municipality of Castiglione Tinella. The purpose of Moscateria is to introduce people to quality Moscato, with a path that starts from the visit in the vineyard, continues in the old cellar that today is an agricultural museum, and ends with the tasting of Moscato d'Asti paired with some dishes cooked with the same wine. A wine list is also offered which includes all the vinifications of Canelli white Moscato (over 20 different).
