Gorzegno – The chapel dedicated to Saint Martin is near the remainings of the castle, on a hill looking over the town and the Bormida river. It’s a beautiful position, once very important from a strategical point of view.
The chapel was once one of the buildings composing the castle, along with the keep, richly decorated, with salons and balconies, and a mill on the Bormida. It’s a unique building in the Langhe, because of its peculiar Greek-cross plant; at the center there’s a tall drum with two little windows on each side.
The whole building is made with local sandstone.
Beautiful are the portal and, inside, a frame with shelves, along with some frescos the only decoration. Recent restorings have been changing the pavement and the drum roof, fallen down many decades ago.
