The family has been producing for over three generations, and Lionello Rosso, born in 1979, has been in charge of the family business since 1999.
The 12 hectares of vineyards and the cellar are located in the municipality of Agliano Terme, between Langhe and Monferrato, in the Unesco area.
The peculiarity that characterizes the company is the choice to produce only one specific wine, Barbera d’Asti DOCG, in all its different varieties.
The will of the owner is therefore to obtain the best from an area particularly suited to the cultivation of this vine.
Cascina Perno: an Unesco tresor
Cascina Perno is part of the Unesco Historic Farmhouses.
This is the classic Piedmontese horseshoe court, renovated keeping the original structure unchanged.
The old barn houses the aging rooms, the tasting room is suitable for up to 50 people.
The Cascina can be reached by car and has a large courtyard. Numerous hiking trails also start from here.
The Wines
Visiting Poderi Rosso means discovering a genuine area, able to offer one of the most representative wines of Piedmont.
It means understanding the evolution of their work and the philosophy of the company, listening and tasting with the producer.
Barbera DOCG
- San Bastian: wine suitable for immediate consumption and easy to match with any dish.
- Cascina Perno: obtained from selected grapes, the light aging in wood gives complexity without covering the fruity sensations typical of Barbera.
- Carlinet: Barbera d’Asti Superior, the most important selection. The refining in small oak barrels makes it excellent for ageing.
- Gioco dell’oca: a reserve produced only in the best years with a longer ageing in both wooden barrels and bottles. The label evokes the famous game board of the early ‘900.
Behind this name there is a curious story that links Agliano to the Barbetta restaurant in New York: you’ll hear it from Lionello during the tasting.
The only exception to the line is represented by the Monferrato Rosso Infine, a blend of Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produced in limited quantities.
