Cravanzana

The town stands on a small “rocca”, on the right side of the Belbo river, 555 meters on sea level.

It’s one of the main production centers for hazelnuth.

The highest part of Cravanzana is the oldest one, built around the parish church of saint Peter and Paul and the medieval castle.

Every year, on September 1st, an important commercial fair takes place.

History

The town’s name is very ancient. Popular stories tell that only one goat remained alive after a very bad plague (“crava sana” means “sane goat”).

History tells us that the name comes from the Calventius’ family name.

Today the castle, with its majestic looks, is the only remaining trace of the long town’s past.
