The last name Barbero is well known in the lands of Roero, as well as historically linked to the winemaking tradition.
Giacomo’s company, however, is a new reality, which certainly builds on the previous experience of its predecessors, but with the intention of reinventing itself and following its own path.
Located in Canale, the winery was born in 2015 with the purchase by the young producer of a first vineyard of 3 hectares in the municipality of Vezza d’Alba in Valmaggiore.
In 5 years the company has grown and made a name for itself in the local market, immediately presenting itself as a sustainable reality, attentive to the well-being of the land: still under construction, the winery focuses on the use of renewable energies, in addition to using techniques with less impact in the vineyard.
The Wines
The labels produced to date are 6, those of the great classics of Roero.
Each of Giacomo Barbero’s wines has as its first aim the expression of the varietal characteristics and the typical notes of Roero; for this reason the aging takes place in steel, except for the two superior wines.
Among the whites we find Langhe Favorita and Roero Arneis, both fresh and drinkable wines, perfect for an aperitif, a selection of appetizers or a seafood dish.
The reds are Barbera d’Alba DOC, Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, Barbera d’Alba Superiore DOC “Montorone” and Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC “Valtassera“.
The two base wines are a clear representation of the difference between the Barbera and Nebbiolo varieties: the first is a rustic, typically savory wine, while the second stands out for its ease of drinking combined with harmony and elegance.
The two superiors are refined in 500-liter tonneaux and consequently acquire greater complexity, the first with a spicy note and the second with an interesting balsamic part.
In 2021 the first Roero Riserva Docg “Valmaggiore” will be released.

Visits & Tastings
The cellar is under construction, but Giacomo is ready to welcome you for a tour in the vineyard and tasting the products.
The work in progress bodes well, and as soon as possible the cellar will open its doors with a tasting room for groups; for now, however, the young producer and the tasting are worth the trip.
Visitors will be able to visit the Nebbiolo “Montorino” vineyard, a highly valuable mention also visible on the Consortium portal.
At the end of the walk you’ll proceed with the tasting, chosen from three types:
- The 4 base wines: Favorita, Arneis, Barbera and Nebbiolo, aged in steel, paired with breadsticks, salami and cheeses → € 15 per person
- The 2 superiors: Barbera Superiore and Nebbiolo Superiore, aged in tonneaux for respectively 18 and 24 months, paired with breadsticks, salami and cheeses → € 15 per person
- All labels: tasting of all 6 wines produced, paired with breadsticks, salami and cheeses → € 25 per person
Booking is necessary to guarantee the reception.
