At the foot of the scenic Moncucco Hill, celebrated by Cesare Pavese in his poem I Mari del Sud is the Cascina Fontanette Farm run by the Ariano family.
From the 8 hectares of vineyards, about 25,000 bottles are produced each year.
The wines produced are many and representative of this area between the extreme edges of the Langhe and the foothills of the Monferrato.
The winery produces its wines with respect for the vineyard and nature, using natural fertilizers and taking care to reduce the use of pesticides. The vines are treated only with sulfur and verdigris to ensure customers receive a natural and transparent product.
In addition, Cascina Fontanette produces clean energy through 4 photovoltaic systems.

A story that
begins in 1920
in Santo Stefano Belbo
For nearly one hundred years, Cascina Fontanette has been involved in the processing of grapes and the production of genuine wines.
The winery dates back to 1920. The Ariano family originated from Valdivilla, a small hillside hamlet just outside Santo Stefano Belbo, where they owned woodlands and vineyards.
In 1944, Franco's grandfather exchanged the land and the house in which he lived for the present house and adjoining vineyards.
They moved a few hills away, a short walk from the center of town, to what was then an old distillery. The whole area was renovated so as to make room for the fledgling winery.
In the 1960s, the business officially began, and the family also began sending the first barrels to Turin, Milan and Aosta, facilitated by the proximity of the train station.
The leap came in the late 1980s with Franco bringing a more modern vision and subsequent expansion of the company.
Significant growth when one considers that the starting wines were exclusively Moscato and Barbera d'Asti.
The Wines
The wines are made with complete respect for nature and from healthy grapes.
There are many labels produced by Cascina Fontanette: quality whites and reds that enhance the characteristics of the land.
Straddling the Langhe and Monferrato, this winery offers the opportunity to compare typical wines from different areas of origin.
Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Barbera d’Alba DOC, Monferrato Rosso DOC and Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC are just a few of the labels for tasting.
Owner Franco Ariano invites you to taste his Moscato DOCG and Dolcetto d’Alba DOC — wines that are well worth the trip.
There is a selection of flavorings including a red chinato, made from nebbiolo grapes, which pairs well with cheeses and chocolate.

Visits & Tastings
Discover the secrets of great Langa wines with Franco.
The cellar, which is easily accessible, is located on the outskirts of the town and has ample parking.
Upon receiving guests and introducing the farm, it is possible to visit the adjacent vineyards: Moscato, Dolcetto and Barbera.
We then visit the processing and aging rooms located on two floors. Among the cold rooms, press and press, the stages of winemaking are illustrated, from the arrival of the grapes in the cellar to bottling.
Tasting takes place in the new room where wines are paired with local products, including bread, breadsticks, cheeses, and cured meats.
