The Baldissero company is located in the southern part of the municipality of Treiso and is led by the young producer Marco Lo Russo.
The name of the Winery pays homage to Guido Baldissero, Marco’s grandfather, a winemaker who, since the early 1950s, personally managed the vineyards by producing a small amount of wine.
The 3.5 hectares of the historic vineyard are located right next to the Winery, a typical renovated Langa farmhouse, which is also the family home.
A unique experience in a small reality Langa
This is where Marco’s Winery can be found which, producing roughly 9,000 bottles per year, represents that niche of producers capable of providing an experience that is both refined and genuine.
The wines produced are classified DOC and DOCG, typical of the Langhe. The easily recognizable label shows the map of the Treiso municipality and the location of the first vineyard acquired by Marco’s grandfather in 1953.
Four types of vines are produced by Marco: Nebbiolo, Syrah, Barbera and Dolcetto, of which the winery can be considered an interpreter of its rebirth.
A story that
begins in 1953
in Treiso
A recently established company led by a young producer who took over the reins of this small jewel winery in the Langhe.
The company was founded in the mid-1950s when Guido Baldissero, Marco's grandfather, bought the vineyard in front of his house for one million-two hundred thousand lire.
A well exposed ridge, ideally suited for cultivating vines and favourable for producing good wine.
Guido, a sharecrop farmer in Trezzo Tinella, is remembered by Marco as the typical Langa man; passionate about his work, yet also humble and endowed with a strength of mind capable of facing any difficulty with courage.
After a life dedicated mainly to studying grapes and the sale of wine in bulk and in demijohn, in 2015 Marco, who graduated a few years earlier from the Alba Enological School, took over the reins of the winery.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and driven by passion, he chose to take the path of winemaking and marketing of wines with his own label.
The first production included 300 bottles of Dolcetto DOC, 500 of Langhe Rosso and a small amount of Barbaresco DOCG.
Today the company is run at a family level with an annual production of circa 9,000 bottles from the 7 hectares of vineyards.
Marco personally follows all the winemaking processes, from the vineyard to the cellar, in order to get the best from his grapes and wines and transmit the same passion to his guests.
The Wines
The Dolcetto and Nebbiolo vines, which are roughly 65 years old and were planted by grandfather Guido, are flanked by younger vineyards
These younger vineyards are tests for experimenting new clones, including the Nebbiolo CVT 71 clone.
The low yield per hectare and the medium-small grape with a rather thick skin represent a large concentration of substance.
The result is a ruby red wine, with an intense bouquet and great structure, well suited to aging.
Following micro wine-making tests, plants on a larger scale were created that are capable of offering qualitatively satisfactory products.
The production
The Langhe DOC Syrah, made from black berried grapes and vinified in purity since 2018, represents one of the products the company bet on and it reflects the company’s philosophy: low yield for better and constant quality.
It is a wine with great longevity and with an important structure and spicy notes.
Dolcetto DOC is a characterizing wine to which Marco is very attached, for both historical and emotional reasons.
It is refined in steel, with excellent drinkability, reminiscent of aromas of blackberry and berries.
Barbaresco DOCG is made both from grapes from older vines and from more recent plants. However, the wine-making processes take place separately.
In the first case, a particularly elegant and fragrant wine is obtained, while in the latter the resulting wines are very structured with ample aging potential.
Aging takes place in first and second passage French oak barriques for 16/18 months. The Barbaresco DOCG is produced from the best tastes.
The traditional Barbaresco is aged for 18 months in wood, the Reserve for 26 months, the Nebbiolo between 14 to 16 months.

Visits & Tastings
The experience begins even before reaching the winery, along the scenic roads that lead there.
The welcoming reception is carried out directly by the family members and begins, upon request and weather permitting, with a walk through the rows of the historic vineyard located adjacent to the winery.
In the vineyard, the work is carried out directly by the owner, according to the philosophy of manual work, respect for tradition and the environment.
Here, we introduce the company and the territory, the history and production philosophy based on quality and rather low yields per hectare.
The visit continues in the areas dedicated to the processing of the grapes: from the room with stainless steel tanks and storage area to the barrel room dedicated to aging.
New in 2021: The Ancò selection
In 2021 the Barbaresco DOCG Ancò Selection was born: a wine that takes its name from the family farmhouse.
It is produced with grapes from the highest part of the vineyard facing east, vinified separately.
The favorable position therefore allows to capture the sun’s rays for a longer time.
The planting of the vineyard dates back to the end of Marco’s oenological school: these are the Nebbiolo CVT 71 clones, selected for their ability to offer an excellent yield.
The stay in barriques is 26 months long.

THE AREA OF PRODUCTION
The company is located within a territory of important wines, characterized by the presence of the Rocche dei Sette Fratelli.
It is a scenic chasm almost 9 hectares in size, between the municipalities of Treiso, San Rocco Seno d’Elvio and Trezzo Tinella.
The vineyard adjacent to the winery, cultivated with Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Syrah grapes, has an excellent south/east exposure that allows it to enjoy solar radiation with a milder temperature from the morning sun.
The Sant’Agata marls
What characterizes the Nebbiolo vineyard, from which the Barbaresco DOCG Riserva is obtained, is the presence within the same plot of stratifications of Sant’Agata marl, in various blue and gray colours.
Within the same body of the vineyard, there is therefore a different type of soil which gives different results from the same grape variety.
This type of soil of Tortonian origin characterizes the entire main part of the Barbaresco area and a large part of the Barolo area.
Robust grapevines for quality products
The final yield of the product is therefore influenced not only by exposure, climate and human intervention, but above all by the amount of limestone present in the soil and by the microelements that the vine is able to capture.
The vineyards planted on this type of soil require careful attention during the first years of life, which is essential for the growth of robust vines.
As a result, over time they are affected less by atmospheric changes, thanks to their robust root system.
