Wandering in Langa
Late Summer Events What not to miss in the Langhe

Once again this year September has arrived, reasonably considered by many the beginning of a new year: schools restart, academic years, sports seasons.
For some, vacations have just ended, leaving the typical “back-to-work blues”; for others they are now an old memory; while there are those who, especially those working in tourism, haven’t even thought about it.
For our territory, September is the month of harvest, of Cheese, but also the one when we prepare to welcome the large tourist flow brought by the International White Truffle Fair of Alba.
What happens in terms of events, festivals and initiatives in this end of summer season? Spoiler: a lot of things. In this article we have made a selection for you.
Among the most anticipated events of September is undoubtedly the Festival delle sagre astigiane, which every year transforms Piazza Campo del Palio into Italy’s largest outdoor restaurant.
Here, in over twenty wooden huts, the local Pro Loco organizations offer an authentic journey through time and Piedmontese culinary tradition.
Born in 1974 within the Douja d’Or, the Festival is not just a gastronomic event but a true recreation of rural life from the past, capable of attracting thousands of visitors every year.
The medieval castle and the streets of the village of Roddi once again welcome Io, Barolo, the event that celebrates the “king of wines”.
As the afternoon draws to a close, about thirty producers bring their labels for tasting.
Among the squares and gardens of the castle, it will be possible to discover Barolo from different vintages and crus, but also taste other wines from the territory, accompanied by gastronomic offerings that make the taste experience complete.
Simply a must. You can’t say you’ve been to the Langhe if you haven’t visited at least one winery.
Wineries Open Their Doors for he Harvest is your chance to discover secrets, anecdotes, curiosities about the wine world during one of the peak periods of production.

You’ll taste extraordinary wines in a moment of unique sharing together with those who produce them and proudly tell you about them, helping you grasp the essence of what is considered the great heritage of this fortunate land.
The biennial cheese festival returns to Bra, an unmissable event for enthusiasts, which as every year offers events, meetings and entertainment for everyone.
There will be tastings, workshops and courses to taste and deepen knowledge of cheeses and many other products that combine unique flavors with the preservation of traditions and the protection of the landscape.
An opportunity to slow down and treat yourself to a different day: the Monteverde Plaster Cast Gallery opens its doors and invites you to discover the works of sculptor Giulio Monteverde, through a journey that tells stories, forms and traditions.
After the visit, the pleasure moves to the table with lunch at La Teca restaurant, where the flavors of the territory become protagonists in genuine and seasonal dishes.
It’s like turning Alba into a great urban adventure: families, friends (or curious couples) can participate in the City Game: you take a kit from the church, form a team and off you go through the historic alleys, hunting for clues among 14 stops scattered throughout the center.
And if you’re adventurous, there’s also the Church of Games: a mini-playful visit to San Giuseppe church with an attached underground archaeological path.
After completing both modules, you can win the “Territory Treasure Chest” and earn a panoramic climb up the bell tower.
The Alta Langa bike tour awaits you in Bossolasco, ready to let you experience 40 kilometers on quiet but scenic roads, between gentle curves and mild climbs with about 600 meters of elevation gain.
You pedal together, following the evocative Romantic Road of the Langhe and Roero, with trees that tell stories, admiring the poetry of the landscape.
Sunday, September 28 at Cascina Fontanette harvest is celebrated like in the old days: you go to the vineyards to pick grapes, crush them barefoot and discover cellar and vineyards with a guided tour that tells the birth of wine in a simple and engaging way.
After the work comes the reward: a lunch made of authentic flavors with cured meats, cheeses, peppers, ravioli al plin and hazelnut cake, accompanied by the wines of the farm.
The day is made even more lively by live music and activities for children, including entertainment, body-painting and drawings. A convivial and genuine occasion, to be experienced with family, friends or simply with the desire to celebrate autumn.
Noon among the vines at Cantina Drocco Luigi: first a light walk through the vineyards or by e-bike if you prefer to pedal independently, then you go down to the cellar where Roberto Drocco welcomes you with many stories about wine that comes from his vines.
The aperitif is immediately tempting: five fine wines and appetizers that awaken the senses. Then comes the traditional lunch, the one that feels familiar to the palate with the great classics of tradition.
Coffee breaks and wine shopping in the winery add the final touch: a hot coffee, an extra glass and the possibility to choose a bottle to take home as a souvenir. And if it should rain? No problem: you eat anyway, among the barrels, with the same enveloping atmosphere.
Alba turns the spotlight on tradition with the Investitura del podestà, a ceremony that kicks off the International White Truffle Fair of Alba.
In Piazza Risorgimento, among flags, period costumes and choreography studied down to the smallest detail, the Lady of Alba leads the entrance of the historical figures namely mayor, notary, scribe and captain of the people, up to the solemn oath and the symbolic delivery of the sword, the key and the medallion.
It’s a moment suspended between legend and history: it recreates an episode from 1275 that serves as the basis for the curious and fun Donkey Palio, launched immediately after with the official announcement by the newly appointed mayor.
