The birth of the company is lost in the night of the times of the ancestors of the Rivata family, present on these lands long ago as small independent farm owners.
Langhero today presents itself as a typical piedmontese farmhouse, with integrated pest management in order to reduce or minimize risks to people health and the environment.
The visit begins with a stroll in the fields, in the vineyards and adjacent orchards, half way up the coast of the Guarene hill, under the grandeur of its castle.
Here it is possible to observe a quite curious geological formation called Paradis der Some (Paradise of jennies). This is a rift that cuts through the entire height of the hill, formed by the Tanaro river at the end of the last glaciation.
During the walk, depending on the seasonal period you’ll see the work that is carried out.
At the end you will visit the entire firm, warehouses and shelter tools, the tractors and their trailers.
The winemaking area, and the aging cellar, are mostly concentrated in the winery of La Morra. However, we will explain you how the wine is produced.
The tour ends with the tasting of Langhero wines, accompanied by delicious snacks and by the tasting of the first and only Madernassa pear cider: the Maderè.
Vineyards and orchards cover an area of roughly 30 hectares: some of which are in the Sotteri area of Guarene and some in La Morra.
The lands are cultivated with vineyards (5 hectares), cereals, corn and wheat (20 hectares), orchards of apples, pears, apricots, peaches, plums and hazelnuts (5 hectares), to which is added a hectare dedicated to horticulture.
The wines produced are Barolo (available from 2018), Nebbiolo and Barbera with the name of Angelo Borgogno, together with 4 red table wines and 1 white table wine with the name of Langhero. We sell them in bulk, in bottles or Bags in Box.
The Maderè cider
From the crushing and pressing of the Madernassa pear, a typical Roero variety, we obtain the juice for the initial fermentation at 14°, which lasts roughly 15/20 days.
The bubbly process takes place during the second fermentation which is carried out at 12°, after which filtering and a period of rest in tanks take place.
At this point the Maderè cider is ready to be bottled: dry, bubbly and with low alcohol (Vol. 8%). It's ideal for any situation; for all dishes and light aperitifs.
Langhero was created through the friendship between Massimo and Alberto their passion for viticulture and the merging of their respective companies.
A union, not only between two friends and two companies, but also between two territories: La Morra and Guarene, between the Langhe and the Roero regions.
