Castelletto Molina is a small town in the Upper Monferrato, in the province of Asti, surrounded by green hills mostly planted with vines and hazelnuts.
The castle, dating back to the 15th century, has been the home of several families of counts such as the Porta and Veggi families, and has stood the test of time still presenting its historic structure with the iconic towers.
Today it turns out to be a private timeshare and only part of it can be visited. The other structures present are the former municipal kindergarten which is now inhabited by citizens, the former Thea House, current headquarters of the Tourist Association, and the former Municipal Weight.
We still find a “wine wall” located under the walls of the castle, created with the contribution of the very talented Fontanilese painter Luigi Amerio, depicting the coats of arms of several wineries in the area.
On the other hand, in the former ironworks there is a very modern beach-volleyball court, a grass soccer field, and a multi-purpose synthetic tennis, soccer, and basketball court.
From a historical, natural and cultural point of view, there is, in the middle of one of the forests that is part of the territory of the village, a cave that was used as a den by partisans during World War II: this is, like other initiatives, the subject of a study, by today’s municipal administration, aimed at developing a tourism project.

The largest and most famous is the one dedicated to St Bartholomew, which dates back to the 15th century and has undergone several restorations over the centuries due to the ravages of war. The others are smaller in size, but very interesting for their architectural style and all different from each other. They are dedicated to San Rocco, to the Blessed Virgin of the Snow and the last one, a former private church of the Counts of the Castle, to the Annunziata
The municipality recently joined the Association with the tourist purpose of the Castellettos of Piedmont, witnessed by a sign placed in the centre of town

The history of Castelletto Molina
Starting from 1721
Castelletto Molina is a village with a rich historical and cultural heritage, whose origins and traditions fascinate and engage anyone who visits it. In these lines, we will explore the etymological roots of its name, the historical events that have marked its territory, and the figures who have helped shape its architectural and cultural identity
Etymologically, Castelletto derives from the Latin "castellettum," meaning small castle, and the name Molina, on the other hand, can be traced back to the nature of the landslide terrain ("molline") or to the prevailing surname of the ancient inhabitants, still in vogue today.
The town was the scene of numerous battles over the centuries and is also listed among the famous galleries of the Vatican: specifically, it is listed in Ignazio Danti's gallery of maps.
The Municipality dates back to the 12th century and, since 1721, has had its current home in the building that stands on Piazza IV Novembre, opposite the Church and Castle. Very impressive is the Council Chamber with its totally frescoed ceiling.
The people who contributed historically to enriching Castelletto culturally and architecturally were the benefactors Alessandro and Michele Thea, who emigrated to Argentina and returned in the 1900s after making their fortunes in South America.
