Paolo Sandri The farmhouse of taste

Wine Producer in Castagnito

In the upper part of Castagnito, the Azienda Agricola Paolo Sandri is a family-run reality that combines wine production with the cultivation of fruit and vegetables and the preparation of artisanal preserves, following the rhythms of nature and the traditions of Langhe and Roero.

Welcoming you are Paolo and Leyla Sandri, who take pleasure in sharing their work and daily life at the company. They are joined by Grandma Rita, always ready to tell memories and anecdotes of a life dedicated to the countryside and local traditions.

We are a small, large family: in which every product is a dear child, to be cared for and presented in its best guise.

From the panoramic garden, where you can stop to enjoy a glass of wine, the gaze sweeps over the vineyards and the villages that dot the hills. A quiet corner in which to take a break and appreciate the landscape that surrounds the company.

A story that
begins in 2003

in Castagnito

A family story that starts from sharecropping at Cascina Saracco and spans several generations, until the birth of the farm and its wine production.

The origins of the Azienda Agricola Paolo Sandri are linked to the historic Cascina Saracco, where Paolo's great-grandfather worked the land as a sharecropper. The relationship of trust established with the owners of the farmhouse marked the beginning of a family bond with these lands, continued from generation to generation.

For many years the activity focused on the cultivation of the land and the production of wine, intended above all for family consumption and bulk sale. At the end of the nineties, the idea of creating its own label took shape and, in 2003, the Azienda Agricola Paolo Sandri was officially born.

Over time, the winemaking spaces were expanded, new rooms for aging and storage were created, new vineyards were acquired and crops were diversified.

Today the family continues to directly follow the different phases of agricultural work and winemaking, preserving the knowledge passed down from previous generations.

The Wines

The grape varieties of Langhe and Roero between tradition and personal interpretations

The production includes a selection of wines that allows you to get to know different varieties and styles, from the freshest and most immediate expressions to those with greater structure, through some of the most representative denominations of Langhe and Roero.

The Nebbiolo grapes are the protagonists of three labels: the Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC and the Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, which offer two interpretations of the same variety, and Nebi, a fresh and versatile rosé.

Among the other reds, the Barbera d’Alba DOC, lively and suitable for different occasions, and the Langhe DOC Dolcetto, with a soft and pleasant drinkability, stand out. To these is added El Disné, whose name in Piedmontese dialect recalls the moment of the meal and conviviality.

The selection is completed by the whites, with the Langhe DOC Arneis, with fresh and floral notes, and the Langhe DOC Favorita, characterized by a good structure and a delicate aromatic profile.

Products

The company is not just a winery, but a true agricultural reality where vineyards, orchards and seasonal crops coexist

Alongside the wine production, the Azienda Agricola Paolo Sandri cultivates fruit, vegetables and cereals, transforming part of the harvest into preserves and artisanal specialties. A choice that reflects the family’s philosophy: to enhance the different crops and bring products linked to seasonality and peasant tradition to the table.

From the orchard come apricots, peaches and ramassin, small plums typical of the territory, used to prepare jams and fruit in syrup. The peaches are also paired with chocolate and amaretti, according to a classic combination of Piedmontese cuisine, while a jelly is born from the grapes that preserves their taste.

The cultivation of cereals allows for flour for polenta, corn for popcorn and corn cakes. The range is completed by toasted hazelnuts, another representative product of these hills.

The preparations follow the succession of the harvests, offering a different way to get to know the company’s work and the variety of its crops.

The preserves of the peasant tradition

The vegetables from the garden become the protagonists of some of the best-known preparations of Piedmontese cuisine, from the Piedmontese appetizer to the one with tuna, peppers and anchovies. The selection also includes bagna cauda, bagnetto rosso and bagnè ant euli, vegetables preserved in apple cider vinegar, as well as tomato purée.

Experiences

Every tasting is a moment of sharing that adapts to the interests and curiosity of those who arrive

Welcoming you are Paolo and Leyla Sandri, who accompany you to discover the company, between history and wines.

The visit begins with a story of family origins and agricultural work, and then continues in the cellar. Among winemaking tanks, aging barrels and processing rooms, the main phases of production and the choices that guide them are illustrated.

When the weather permits, the route extends to the vineyards adjacent to the cellar, where you can learn about the characteristics of the soil, the microclimate and the practices adopted to obtain quality grapes.

The moment of tasting adapts to the interests of the guests, with the possibility of deepening the more technical aspects or letting yourself be guided in an informal tasting. The wines are offered together with cured meats, cheeses and company specialties, to explore the different pairings and the nuances that emerge.

Hospitality

A stop in the countryside, between open spaces and freedom to explore the Roero

The Azienda Agricola Paolo Sandri is equipped to welcome even those who wish to stay longer, perhaps during a trip to discover the Roero. The large spaces for camper parking, with the possibility of connection to electricity, allow you to organize a stop among vineyards, cellars and villages in the area.

The environment is also suitable for families with children, who can play in the open spaces, and for those traveling with their pet. Four-legged friends have a safe courtyard at their disposal where they can move freely.

The presence of Paolo and Leyla’s daughters contributes to the family daily life of the farmhouse, where hospitality is naturally intertwined with life and work at the company.

Discovering the Roero

From Castagnito you can easily reach the Rocche del Roero, with their sandy canyons and paths that cross a landscape very different from that of the nearby Langhe. Among the destinations to visit are Guarene, with its panoramic points, Canale, known for its markets and food and wine productions, and Govone, with the Savoy castle included in the UNESCO heritage. The small villages of Santo Stefano Roero and Monteu Roero, among vineyards and hills, are also worth a walk.
