A story that
begins in 1904

in Costigliole d'Asti

An authentic and extraordinarily simple story

The story of the Boeri family begins in the early years of the twentieth century, when great-grandfather Alfonso started cultivating the first vineyards on Bricco Quaglia, a hill particularly suited to viticulture in the Bionzo area, in Costigliole d'Asti.

In the 1930s, grandfather Giovanni planted some of the family's historic vineyards and devoted himself to selling bulk wine, transported in demijohns as far as Turin and Cuneo.

Since then, the bond with the land has been handed down from generation to generation. First his son Giovanni, then his grandson Alfonso continued the family's work, preserving and enhancing the historic vineyards.

An important turning point came in 1998, when brothers Giorgio and Roberto Boeri, fourth generation, decided to begin bottling, initiating a new phase of growth that today also sees the involvement of the fifth generation.

With them was also born Barbera d'Asti Superiore Pörlapà, the winery's signature wine, obtained from the grapes of a historic vineyard planted in 1936. The name, a Piedmontese dialect expression conveying astonishment and wonder, recalls the character of this label.

From the first 4,000 bottles in 2001, the winery has progressively expanded its activity, today reaching an annual production of between 100,000 and 120,000 bottles. Boeri wines are also present in international markets, from Asia to North America.

The Wines

A production that recounts the different expressions of the territory

From wines for everyday meals to more refined labels, Cantina Boeri’s production is articulated in different lines, each with its own identity.

The fundamentals

A young and straightforward line, designed to accompany the everyday table. It includes Dolcetto, Barbera d’Asti and a fresh Vino Bianco, obtained from Cortese, Arneis and Favorita grapes.

Selections

In this line there is also room for wines that recount the history of the family vineyards. This is the case of Piemonte DOC Chardonnay Beviòn, whose name takes up the surname of the previous owner of a historic vineyard, purchased by grandfather Alfonso in the 1950s.

Barbera d’Asti DOCG Superiore Martinette instead takes its name from one of the oldest Barbera vineyards on the estate, particularly suited to this production due to its exposure and conformation. The result is a versatile wine, capable of accompanying the entire meal.

Then there is Moscato d’Asti DOCG Ribota, which in its name preserves the memory of the end-of-harvest celebrations. In the 1950s, the ribota was a moment of conviviality that involved the entire village, with songs, food and wine. Traditionally served with desserts, this Moscato is now also appreciated as an aperitif.

The exclusives

Among the winery’s flagship labels stands out Barbera d’Asti DOCG Superiore Pörlapà, obtained from the best bunches of a vineyard planted in 1936 and still productive. The name comes from the Piedmontese exclamation of astonishment uttered by grandfather at the first tasting, which became the symbol of this wine.

From the same vineyard also comes to life Barbera d’Asti DOCG Superiore Bionzo. The grapes are left to dry naturally on the plant and harvested with a late harvest. This is followed by two years of aging in barrique and another two in bottle, which contribute to giving it a warm and enveloping taste.

Completing the line are Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo Noto, dedicated to great-grandfather Boeri, remembered in the village as a figure of reference and justice of the peace, and a special selection of Barolo DOCG.

The sparkling wines

The production also includes two sparkling wines with different characteristics. The Brut Metodo Charmat is born from Chardonnay and Pinot Nero in equal parts and is distinguished by its fruity notes and pronounced minerality, with a fresh, dry and balanced sip.

The Brut Rosé Metodo Classico is instead obtained from Nebbiolo grapes, with refermentation and aging in bottle for at least 30 months. The rosé color and the personality of the grape variety characterize its profile.

For those who prefer traditional everyday consumption, the winery also maintains a small quota of wine sold in Bag-in-Box.

Philosophy in the vineyard

Good wine is born in the vineyard, from respect for nature and its rhythms

Cantina Boeri’s philosophy starts from the work in the vineyard, where every intervention follows the natural rhythms of the plants and the characteristics of the territory. The work is careful and measured, with the aim of accompanying the ripening of the grapes while respecting the peculiarities of each vintage.

Treatments are reduced to a minimum and applied preventively only in case of imminent rain, thanks also to a local microclimate naturally not very subject to the development of molds.

The new challenge of climate

According to Giulia Boeri, daughter of Alfonso, one of the main difficulties of contemporary viticulture is represented by heat and increasing drought. Particularly dry seasons, such as those of 2024 and 2026, require increasingly careful management of the plants and soil.

In 2024, in particular, the dehydration of the berries caused a drop in production of about 30%, highlighting how important it is to support the vines during periods of greatest water stress.

Careful and sustainable viticulture

The Boeri family's vineyards extend over 13 hectares on Bricco Quaglia, one of the most suited crus of Costigliole d'Asti. The conformation of the land and the favorable exposure contribute to the quality of the grapes. Management follows the principles of integrated pest management, with SQNPI certification, through targeted interventions that limit treatments, protect biodiversity and help protect the plants from summer heat.
