Asti Langa

Biking between the astigian Langhe and the Bormida valley #3 Cessole - Loazzolo

in Cessole

This tour leads us to discover the landscapes of the vineyards of Loazzolo, where we produce the homonymous Passito DOC, with departure and return from Cessole.

It is a rather short ride, about 19 km, and does not present particular difficulties since it goes from 220 to 450 meters above sea level. However, it offers very evocative glimpses on the vineyards of the passito and on the nature of this part of the Langhe certainly more wild than that of Alba.

Departure from Cessole

Cessole

Cessole

The historic center of the village is definitely worth a visit, starting from the Town Hall square we climb to the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, designed by a student of Juvarra, Giacomo del Carretto, in 1779.

Remarkable because to overcome the difference in height of the hill they built two churches, one on the other connected to each other, in fact in the lower part you find the Church of San Sebastiano.

Leaving the village you continue along some bends, and you can admire the view of the village from above.

You reach the Bricco della Croce among stone houses and turning left you continue towards the Sieiz region, where we find the last house of Cessole. You go along the border with Cossano Belbo and you arrive at the hamlet of Falchetto, with on the left the view of the Valle Belbo and on the right of the Val Bormida.

The vineyards of Loazzolo

After about 1 km you reach the church of Santa Libera, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the vineyards and the village of Loazzolo.

The village is known for being home to the late harvest Passito, one of the smallest Doc in Italy.

Visit the uphill streets of the village you’ll find the parish church of Sant’Antonio Abate and in the same square the Church of San Francesco.

However, I would advise you to go back once you have visited the center, to make a detour in the Creviolo region to immerse yourself in the Passito vineyards. Just take the detour on the right just before entering the village, and you will cross a couple of km immersed in the rows, following the crest of the vineyards.

Return to Cessole

Keeping the road till the end you will pop over the center, arriving downhill on the SP 25. Turn right and in a few minutes you’ll reach Cessole.
