Cisterna d’Asti

The town is dominated by the majestic castle, with its strong walls. It’s an art and crafts museum.

On the main road, leading to the castle, there are restaurants, cellars and shops where you can buy a wonderful bread, salami and mustard.

The hills towards Canale are covered with vineyards, while the side towards Ferrere is still beautiful with woods, full of walks and picnic areas. There, it isn’t uncommon to meet games.

History

Anciently founded as a fortified village, this town has a long and complicated history.

First it was a feud of the town of Asti, then it was owned by the Garretti, the Guttuari, the Della Rovere d’Aragona and other families, until it was owned by the Dal Pozzo since 1650.

It was then owned by the Holy See until 1741, when Benedetto XIV gave it to the Savoia family.
