The festival

One theme each year to serve as a common thread.

From the first edition, 1999: Literatures between North and South, The Journey and the Dream, Islands, Fears, Boundaries, The Places of Freedom, Passions, Passages, 2007: At This Very Moment, 200∝: At the Edge of Infinity, Lights in the Dark, Idols, Vertical Horizons, Breathless, Land, Land!, Colors, Odd, Recreation.

More than one hundred authors meet other authors and other books each year, and present their latest works, fresh from the press, to a participating audience, offering their personal interpretation of the theme of the edition.

A series of debates, with multiple voices, to ensure that the meetings are not just an editorial presentation-promotion, but anopportunity for discussion and growth, for those who listen and for those who speak.

A physical location for the event, the Province Meeting Center, which is the geographic and institutional core of the event and the city, which hosts most of the debates and which comes alive with a bookstore specially set up and a Children’s Space; a physical place that for the four days of the event becomes a crossroads, a party, a space of choice for citizens and readers of all ages.

A crown of small and large meeting points, public and private, that actively participate in the event by lending their spaces, their audiences, and their stories: Workers’ Society, Galimberti House, Circle ‘l Caprissi, Monviso Cinema, Palazzo Comunale, Teatro Civico Toselli, Teatro Officina, Sala San Giovanni… And then Theater, with major national premiere events and shows for children and young people, and music, with musicians and writers (perhaps musician-writers), for after-theater evenings.

November 16 program.

5:30 p.m. It is not time for revenge – Opening of the XXIV edition

At meeting center, blue room. Free admission, online reservations.

It is time to reflect on the way to rebuild trust between magistrates, politicians and citizens.

Clean Hands and the Palermo massacres represented the acute phase of a clash between pieces of the country, but the seeds of imbalance were there before and the cracks widened afterward.

Luciano Violante (with Stefano Folli; Without Vindications, Il Mulino) in his lives has been a magistrate, university professor and politician, dialoguing about the legitimacy of justice and the sense of service of institutions reckons with our past and our future.

Cristina Clerico interviews him.

6:00 p.m. Trees like me

At meeting center, red room. Price €3.00

By tending the green a person in need heals himself because he regains the attention and confidence he has lost along the way.

In short, caring for plants can have a therapeutic effect for Andrea Mati (Saving Yourself with Green, Giunti).

It is a revolutionary principle: green can save fragile people.

Fabio Marzano’s (I racconti delle piante, EDT), on the other hand, is a journey through Italian gardens and botanical gardens to discover bizarre and fascinating stories about plants, such as the migrations of the “glacial refugees,” the trees that crossed the Alps from the north in ancient times to overlook the Mediterranean.

Paolo Cavallo moderates.

6:00 p.m. On and off the field

At meeting center, Falco hall 3.00 €

The game of rugby has always carried with it an air of genteelness, maybe not in tackles and scrums, but in everything else it does.

The team, the teammates, the role, the rules, the talent–all these things are found in the eyes and between the pages of Maxime Mbandà (Out of the Scrum, Piemme), a star of our national team, who recounts his own experience to his son and to all of us.

Off the field, in times of pandemic, the races were not on the grass, but in an ambulance, and at stake was the life of those being rescued.

An emotional and exciting interweaving that shows that everyone, with or without a jersey number, has a role, which makes him or her part of the game.

Marco Ruzzi interviews him.

6 p.m. A whirlwind of stories

At the meeting center, Robinson hall. Ages 3 and up. Price €3.00

“That’s the game of turn the page, what’s next no one imagines. No one imagines what appears: turn the page and start playing.”

An amazing game, a whirlwind of discoveries at every turn of the page.

A story full of rhythm and musicality on which to dream and imagine.

Nicoletta Bertelle presents Turn the Page (Camelozampa).

6 p.m. Unstable air, sinister air

At Ferrero Hall. Price €3.00

When it comes to social media, anger seems to have become the prevailing state of mind: the distrust towards the fake news gives way to outrage over “fuck news”; phenomena such as the “cancel culture” seem the only possible ideology and, finally, the natural and human reaction to it all: how much intellectual vivacity are we losing for fear that we will be targeted for a sentence posted on Facebook?

Francesco Oggiano (Sociability, Piemme) answers these and other questions, preparing us for the crossroads before us: choosing between simplification and complexity, indignation and ideas, mere symbols andaction, the illusion of perfection and humanity, narcissism and curiosity.

And the future of information, democracy and social life largely depend on these choices

He dialogues with Davide Rossi.

6 p.m. An air trap

At the Foro Boario auditorium. Price €3.00

The Lofoten Islands and its Arctic fjords are an evocative setting, a new declension of the north with ice now occupying a major slice of our imagination when it has to focus on vicious killers.

Giuseppe Festa (An Air Trap, Longanesi) has us meet Marcus Morgen with a gun in his hand, a man who has lost too much, even his job in the criminal police, and is about to call it a day when a crime, the first in a series, knocks on his door…

Guido Affini interviews him.

6:00 p.m. A fabulous meal

At Rondo dei Talenti. Ages 6 and up. Price €3.00

If fairy tales travel “from mouth to mouth,” it is also because they contain succulent foods, cauldrons, magical ingredients, and amazing dinners.

Beginning with Straparola and Basile, a journey through theItaly of fairy tales and food, and of food in fairy tales, in a mouth-watering collection that envelops us in flavors, adventures where regional food from the Alps to the islands, raw or cooked or frugal or sophisticated, is the absolute star.

Lucia Scuderi (The Story Eater) tells us about it.

The Most Beautiful Italian Tales of Food and Magic, edited by Bianca Lazzaro, Donzelli), who gave all those delicacies life and color.

With her, Matteo Corradini.

9 p.m. Monviso Cinema: Film Review

Camino Skies (2019, Australia, New Zealand, directed by Fergus Grady & Noel Smyth). Price €4.00

A film about life, love and personal loss processed along the Camino de Santiago.

Six strangers decide to walk the 800-kilometer Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago to overcome their limitations and face the personal traumas that life has dealt them.

The journey, which is very strenuous but at times exhilarating, offers each of them a chance to test the limits of their fitness and come to terms with recent personal losses.

Heartbreaking but motivational, Camino Skies tells the story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

9:15 p.m. Toselli Theater: My meeting with Lucio Dalla

Price €5.00

A show about Dalla.

A meeting with Dalla.

Serious, crazy and funny anecdotes about the famous singer-songwriter and the myth created around him, reconstructing his background and artistic and highly personal history.

Serving as a musical backdrop to this varied-toned narrative are some of Lucio’s most iconic songs reinterpreted by Roberta Giallo, an artist Dalla was particularly fond of.

Journalist and music critic Ernesto Assante (with Gino Castaldo, Lucio Dalla, Mondadori) recounts in his own way a special encounter with the artist, one of the most brilliant, histrionic, talented songwriters our musical history has ever had.
