Maurilio Vaira and his wife Bruna welcome visitors to their eighteenth-century estate located in Vergne, a small town bordering the town of Barolo.
The property covers a single plot of 23 hectares and includes 11 hectares of vineyards, a truffle reserve and 10 hectares of cereals.
An ancient history that of the Vaira family which has 16 generations of wine producers.
A past documented by certain sources of which Maurilio is the narrator for his guests and which from time to time is enriched with new pieces, the result of continuous research.
Those wishing to stay in the area can choose between different solutions: there are in fact farmhouses, bed and breakfasts and an agri-camping.
A story that
begins in 1540
The Vaira family is extremely unique. In fact, it has now reached the 16th generation of producers
Over the years Maurilio Vaira has carried out numerous researches to reconstruct the genealogical tree of his family.
A story that dates back to around 1490, the year of birth of Faustino Vaira, the first ancestor of whom we have certain information.
Faustino Vaira, as evidenced by the documents present in the Barolo cadastre, already in 1540 owned plots in the municipalities of Barolo, Cherasco, Monforte and La Morra on which it already exercises the activity of wine producer.
Starting from 1650 the family business also takes place in the Vergne hamlet.
Until 1880, this small hamlet, divided between Cherasco and Barolo for reasons of territoriality and wars, partly passes under the municipality of Narzole with the advent of Napoleon Bonaparte.
For 16 generations it is an uninterrupted succession of wine producers that has been handed down from father to son to the present day.
The winery is located in the estate owned by the family, inherited by the Countess Gallaman as an inheritance to the Somaschi Fathers and born, according to the records, as a house of delight and holiday resort by the will of the Baroni Defanti of Cherasco.
Francesco Natale and Giovanna, Maurilio's parents, first rent and then buy the building with the intention of raising their five children, continuing the wine-growing activity undertaken by his grandfather Guglielmo.
The first company-branded bottles were born in 2006 by Maurilio's will.
Today the company presents itself as a structured reality that produces around 30,000 bottles of typical Langhe wine every year.

From the 11 hectares destined for viticulture they obtain: Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and the younger rosé wine Ànsamisa, the white wine Samuele TrAmici and the red table wine Memorie.
Barbera d’Alba Corsaglia e Pascolo DOC, named after historical company cadastral places, comes from the assembly of grapes from an 80-year-old historic vineyard and from two plants from 1988 and 2000.
The taste is soft, but structured and has an excellent aging potential.
The Langhe Nebbiolo Guglielmo e Natale DOC, a tribute to Maurilio’s grandfather and father, comes from grapes planted on the farm from 1969 onwards.
Dolcetto DOC Le Mamme is obtained from vineyards in 1988 and is dedicated to the mother Giovanna and his wife Bruna.
Rosato Ansamisa, whose invented name is an acronym from the initials of the 4 children, comes from the vinification of the company’s grapes in rosé.
The white wine Samuele TrAmici, dedicated to the memory of his son, is a soft wine, of conviviality and friendship. Perfect throughout the meal, it goes well with aperitifs, appetizers, fish and pasta.
The red table wine Memorie, directly tapped from the barrel, is available in Bag in Box, cans and demijohns.

Meeting the owners and building new relationships
The goal of the family is not only to transmit an experience on a sensorial level, but to communicate important values with simplicity: passion for work, for the territory and family union.
Maurilio’s narration begins with the walk in the vineyards adjacent to the winery.
He’ll talk about the territory and let you observe the different types of vineyards. He’ll share in depth the topic of work in the vineyard and how each product is influenced by the soil, exposure and climate.
A walk in the truffle area allows to deepen the aspects related to the wood and the search for the Truffle.
Before reaching the tasting room, you will discover some secrets related to the work in the cellar, the processing of the grapes and the aging in cask and bottle.
The experience takes place in the special room of the eighteenth century that can accommodate large groups, has a price starting from € 12.00 / person and includes the tasting of all wines accompanied by local products, meats and cheeses.
The large garden in front of the estate and surrounded by its own vineyards offers a breathtaking panorama which extends to the Maritime Alps.
On request, the tasting can therefore be held outdoors even in the late evening.

Truffle hunting is one of the most appreciated experiences by tourists during their stay in the Langhe, characterized by the almost symbiotic relationship between the searcher (trifolau) and his dog (tabui).
Maurilio is accompanied in the search by his dog Snoopy.
The finding of the truffle is guaranteed, since it is simulated research within the proprietary truffle hunter.
However, the discovery of spontaneously ripened White Truffle is not excluded.
The experience has a price of € 30.00 / person, takes place with a maximum of 10/15 people and can be combined with the classic visit and tasting.
The duration of the research winds on two different paths of different length.
The truffles found during the research are owned by the trifulao, but can be purchased following the weighing and the seasonal value.

The price of the experience is priced at € 30.00 / person and can be combined with the classic tasting.
The simulated truffle search takes place on two paths of different length with groups of maximum 10/15 people.
