Douja d'Or: Tokaj: the wine that tells the story of a landscape

Wine at the center, discovering the excellence of the Asti area.

The Douja d’Or is one of the three flagship events of Asti’s September, alongside the Palio and the Festival of Festivals.

Asti, capital of wine, also renowned for its exquisite gastronomy, reveals itself over ten days through tastings, performances, and cultural itineraries against the backdrop of one of the most prestigious national wine competitions.

The heart of the event will be Piazza San Secondo, transformed into the “Wine Salon”: a place of encounter between local excellence and international guests.

Tastings, showcooking, masterclasses, and events throughout the city will make the Douja an immersive experience accessible to all.

The itinerary includes a stop at 2 wineries awaiting Douja guests with a cellar visit and tasting, accompanied by a dedicated bus departing from and returning to Asti.

Masterclass curated by the Association for the Heritage of the Wine Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato

Hills, valleys, vineyards and ancient underground cellars: the Historic Cultural Landscape of the Tokaj wine region, in the heart of Hungary, is the result of a winemaking history rooted in the centuries.

Here wine is not merely a production, but an essential part of the identity of the territory and the culture of its communities.

Inscribed in 2002 on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape tells the story of the profound bond between man and nature, through a landscape shaped by viticulture and a production tradition whose quality has been regulated for nearly three centuries.

The masterclass will be a journey discovering this heritage through its wines: an opportunity to explore territory, tradition and culture and understand how every glass can tell the story and identity of Tokaj.

The Masterclass is moderated by journalist Danilo Poggio.

La Douja

Pronounced dùia, in Piedmontese dialect it is the ancient earthenware vessel used for decanting, storing and serving wine.

The Piedmontese mask Gianduja, Gian d’la Douja, uses it instead of a glass for his merry drinking.

In Asti , the Douja d’Or is synonymous with the wine festival, now a must-see event in Piedmont.
