Cascina Ciuché is a family winery surrounded by vineyards, woods, hazelnut groves, and traces of medieval history. It is located in Valcioccaro, a hamlet of Costigliole d’Asti, in Monferrato.
The Dogliotti family carries on a production linked to these hills, with particular attention to Barbera d’Asti, Nizza DOCG, and Moscato.
Enrico, together with his wife Giulia and his father Angelo, are ready to welcome you with a direct and family approach. Here the tasting becomes a dialogue made of wine, vineyards, production choices, and stories of a reality that has chosen to remain true to itself.
Even the name Ciuché is part of the story: in Piedmontese dialect it indicates the clapper, the “cioca” of the bell, and recalls a local legend still passed down today during the winery tour.
Among the oak casks, the wine rests slowly, refining its character, elegance, and complexity while respecting its natural pace.
Enrico and Giulia welcome every guest with the same passion with which, every day, they cultivate the land and share the story of their terroir.
In the cellar, tradition and innovation meet to guide the wine through every stage of its evolution.
A story that
begins in 1950
in Costigliole d’Asti
The history of Cascina Ciuché spans generations and tells of the passion, hard work, and determination that helped shape the viticultural landscape of Costigliole d’Asti.
It all began in the early 20th century, when Angelo “Gele” Dogliotti cultivated Barbera and Moscato on the hills of Castiglione Tinella, together with his sons Luigi and Remo.
In 1956, Remo moved with his wife to Costigliole d’Asti, in the Valcioccaro area, and purchased a small farmhouse that still houses the winery today.
Initially, the grapes were delivered to local social cooperatives. Over time, however, the desire grew to directly value the fruit of their own labor. This led to a small production of bulk wine intended for local buyers.
From the Barbera and Moscato vineyards, one of the first wineries in the valley took shape. Remo was in fact the first producer in the area to choose to make his own wine, sensing the potential of an area that was still undervalued at the time.
Growth continued with Angelo, Remo's son, who together with his wife Daniela transformed the company into an increasingly structured reality. During this phase, the name Cascina Ciuché was born and the vineyard heritage expanded year after year, with new plots selected for their exposure and soil characteristics.
Caring for the vineyards, knowing the individual plots, and respecting the place where the company works thus became some of the winery's fundamental values.
Today the tradition continues with Enrico and his wife Giulia, who carry on the family work alongside Angelo, with a more contemporary outlook but without losing the link to their origins.
Since 2017, the company has undertaken a renewal process involving the brand identity, labels, communication, and spaces dedicated to hospitality. An evolution designed to better tell the winery's story to those who visit, through tastings, meetings, and moments of sharing.
The Wines
Barbera d’Asti, Nizza DOCG, and production linked to the hills of Costigliole
In Costigliole d’Asti, Barbera d’Asti DOCG is one of the most recognizable expressions of these hills, where the clay-limestone soils and favorable microclimate help the grapes develop structure, balance, and the ability to evolve over time.
The work of Cascina Ciuché starts from this vocation, cultivating mainly barbera.
In the vineyard, the experience gained over the years guides every choice. Winter and spring pruning encourages the aeration of the clusters and correct sun exposure; constant monitoring of the fruit and soil care help maintain the balance of the vine.
Treatments are carried out only when strictly necessary. The harvest is manual and takes place using the characteristic perforated red crates, used to protect the quality of the harvested grapes until they arrive at the winery.
In recent years, the image of the bottles has also been renewed: the premium line is recognized by its blue graphic design and sealing wax capsule, two elements designed to make the labels more recognizable and contemporary.
The wines of Cascina Ciuché
The Barbera d’Asti DOCG Giulia is the most convivial and immediate wine, designed to naturally accompany traditional Piedmontese dishes.
With the Barbera d’Asti DOCG Superiore D.E.A., it’s all about structure: the wine ages slowly in barriques for at least 12-18 months, acquiring greater depth and complexity.
The Nizza DOCG Ventimesi comes from historic vineyards about 70 years old, located in Agliano Terme. The name refers to the 20 months of aging in oak barriques, a step that contributes to defining its structure, elegance, and character.
Alongside these, the winery also works on other expressions of Monferrato and Piedmont, including Alta Langa DOCG and Moscato d’Asti DOCG.

Discover the territory
The less-traveled Monferrato, among vineyards, castles, and panoramic villages
Starting from Cascina Ciuché, you can discover a less-traveled area of Monferrato. Among the places most closely linked to the winery is Bricco Lu, the panoramic hill offering a 360° view. At the top, a giant bench and pine and cypress trees create a shaded corner, perfect for a break, a moment of relaxation, or a picnic in nature.
Just a step away from the winery, the first reference point is Costigliole d’Asti, a wine-making center dominated by its castle and deeply linked to Barbera d’Asti. Every year, in early November, the castle halls host Rosso Barbera, the main tasting event dedicated to this grape variety, while in July the San Michele amphitheater hosts the Barbera Summer Festival.
In the surroundings, the Castle of Burio, a medieval fortress nestled among the vineyards, and the hamlets of Bionzo and Loreto, hilltop villages whose viewpoints offer views from the vineyards to the Alpine arc, are well worth a stop.
In a short time, you can also reach Castagnole delle Lanze, with its historic colorful porticoes, and Coazzolo, known for the Vigna dei Pastelli and for the small church painted by the artist David Tremlett.
UNESCO Landscapes and Infernot
The hills in the area are part of the UNESCO Wine Landscapes and change appearance with the seasons, between rows of vines, woodland patches, and hazelnut groves.
One of the most interesting discoveries is found underground: the Infernot. These are underground rooms hand-carved into the local rock, the Pietra da Cantoni, beneath the old cellars. Lacking light and ventilation, they maintain a constant temperature all year round and have guarded the area’s most precious wines for centuries.
Truffles, Piedmontese cuisine, and nearby cities
Discovery also passes through the kitchen. In autumn, the star is the white truffle, while in the area’s restaurants, you can find iconic dishes of the Piedmontese tradition: agnolotti del plin, fritto misto, bagna cauda, and hand-chopped raw meat.
The legend of Valcioccaro: the Bell Ringer and the Devil's Vineyard
The vineyards of Cascina Ciuché stretch across the hills of Costigliole d’Asti, where Barbera finds one of its finest expressions.
Between wine, stories, traditions, and hospitality, a visit to Cascina Ciuché is a journey to discover the most authentic soul of Monferrato.
