the Torino Jazz Festival joins the Liberation Day celebrations with a concert by singer Fatoumata Diawara, which Thursday, April 25 at 9 p.m. will perform at the Regio Theater in a performance ideally dedicated to resilient youth and especially to Dante di Nanni, eighty years after his death.

Patriot, di Nanni was part of the GAP (Patriotic Action Groups).

The concert will be introduced by readings of excerpts on the Resistance – chosen by Istoreto – by actress Sara D’Amario, and the testimony of Adriana Cantore, who on May 21, 1944, at the age of only 13 months, was imprisoned with her mother and grandmother at Le Nuove in Turin.

On the Regio stage, Sara D’Amario will wear a precious dress from theLancetti Historical Archives, chosen with stylist Tina Monello, and will have her makeup and hair done by Rosanna Curci make-up artist.

Fatoumata Diawara ‘s presence is meant to remind us of the centrality of today’s music in exalting the historical and current values of the Resistance.

The great singer from Mali, a champion of women’s rights and a master in the fusion of styles and suggestions without borders, will conclude the day of events for the anniversary of the Liberation in an atmosphere of celebration, dance and social fellowship open to all citizens.

The City of Turin and the Resistance and Constitution Committee of the Regional Council intend to celebrate an important anniversary, the 80th anniversary of the killing of partisan Dante di Nanni.

Dedicated to him, and ideally to all young partisans, is a concert by Fatoumata Diawara, a singer and actress who is very committed to women’s rights.

It is an event in addition to the traditional institutional commemorations and historical insights that will serve to engage the younger generation, to remember that eighty years ago boys and girls their age gave their lives so that we, today, can live in a democratic country.

April 25 is a time of joy and at the same time an opportunity to reflect on our past, not to lose the Memory of what has been and make it the sap of our commitment to a free, just and peaceful future.

Dante di Nanni

Wounded as a result of sabotage action, he was denounced by a spy, died during combat in Borgo San Paolo, and was awarded the gold medal for military valor.

The street formerly named “Via Villafranca Sabauda” was named in his memory, while a plaque was placed on the house at 14 San Bernardino Street, the site of his death.

Fatoumata Diawara

was born in Côte d’Ivoire to Malian parents and raised with ten siblings, began acting as a child and at nineteen left home against her family’s wishes to follow her theatrical vocation, even beginning to sing in clubs in Paris.

She has been a backing vocalist for Dee Dee Bridgewater and has participated in several films and the documentary Mali Blues.

He debuted in 2011 with an album featuring legends such as John Paul Jones and Tony Allen.

The artist brings to the tour a concert largely based on his latest album London Ko, with which he reinvents traditional African music, combining his own mandinka roots with Afrofuturistic suggestions and Afrobeat, jazz and pop influences.

A synthesis reflected in the album’s title, a union of the names of London and the Malian capital Bamako.

Diawara explains:

For me, London Ko means opening the mind” and inventing an alternative space and time where music becomes a message of hope, joy of life, humanity
