Motta: Pepper Festival

As per tradition, the hamlet of Motta di Costigliole d’ Asti celebrates the Peperone Quadrato d’Asti, a product of excellence in this part of the Tanaro Valley.

Three days of festivities for an event that is now in its 2024 edition and focuses on food and wine.

Program

In a program packed with entertainment, culture, games and sports for all ages, the highlights of the event are the food and wine evenings where typical dishes based on peppers and other seasonal vegetables are offered.

Mass

From 10 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at the sports field.

Lunch

At 12:30 p.m. the Fair lunch will begin to be served.

Dinner

From 7 p.m. opening of the food and wine stand.

Frog marries bell pepper: fried frogs Mottese style.

The event

In fact, that of the Motta di Costigliole Pepper counts 77 years: it was first organized a few months after the end of the World War.

The production of Quadrato d’Asti was once very flourishing and profitable, so much so that in the 1960s and 1970s the Tanaro Valley area with Motta di Costigliole at its center was recognized as the “little California.”

Vegetables and the Peperone Quadrato d’Asti represent with wines a great asset of the traditional economy of Costigliola and are here enhanced and celebrated in the four food and wine evenings.
