Unmissable spring excursion to places where history has left its mark: beautiful landscapes, delicate spring blossoms and art in the Roero hills.
The route
The ring we propose is spread over the hills that embrace a large sector of the Roero territory and, in part, overlook the specular hills of the Langa.
Starting from thevillage of Santa Vittoria, characterized by the bulk of the tower, an ancient bulwark defending the territory, we will cross the hills affected in the past by the presence of important centers of Roman origin such as Anforiano and Turriglio itself, a singular construction from the imperial period.
The route will pass through quiet ridge forests that divide the territory of Monticello from the territory of Corneliano.
Corneliano’s ancient forest is characterized by the presence of broadleaf trees, such as poplars, chestnuts and downy oaks, the presence of Scots pine (the only native conifer in the area) and interesting shrubs in their spring bloom, the undergrowth spotted with cushions of pretty pastel-colored blooms .
Suggestive viewpoints will offer cues to fully grasp the beauty of the landscape and admire the many villages perched on the nervous hills of the Roero.
We will then return to the cars in the afternoon, traveling along a loop of high scenic value.
Highlands proposes
Once the hike is over, Terre Alte Escursioni, in collaboration with the Association “Amphorianus” and “Sentieri dei Frescanti,” offers you a visit to the oratory of the Brotherhood of St. Francis.
The building is the real jewel of this small and delightful village and houses in its interior one of the most significant fresco cycles of the 16th century in the Province of Cuneo, perfectly preserved: “the Passion of Christ, between popular narrative and sacred tradition, an exciting tale over thirty meters long.”
