Tenuta Garetto was born from the Gagliardo family’s desire to expand their production in the Nizza area, given the important wine-growing vocation of its lands.
So in July 2017 a change of ownership took place, which saw the celebrated producers from La Morra of Poderi Gianni Gagliardo take over the management of this historic estate and its vineyards.
Stefano and Alberto Gagliardo are committed to respecting the established tradition from the previous management, while making important changes both in the vineyard and in the winery: alongside vineyards dating back to the 1930s, new plantings are being created, always linked to low environmental impact agriculture, about to become organic.
The estate is located in Agliano Terme, the most important area for the production of Nizza DOCG, a very new denomination recognized as the highest expression of Barbera d’Asti grapes.
All 10 hectares are on a single plot of land, on the hill behind the cellar
The Wines
Agliano Terme, always known as the "village of Barbera", is characterized by sandy marls that are a constituent element of wines with character and suitable for aging.
The property consists of a single plot of 10 hectares that develops on the hill behind the winery, thus helping to optimize the harvest and therefore maximize the quality of the wines produced.
The winery mainly works with Barbera grapes, which correspond to approximately 80% of production, some of which date back to the 1930s and 1950s; all the vineyards enjoy an ideal exposure South/South-west.
The wines produced are Nizza DOCG, Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG and Grignolino d’Asti DOC, each characterized by elegance and strong character as the Gagliardo style demands.

Experiences
The best way to fully understand the nuances and distinctive features of the Gagliardo family is to visit both locations, the one in La Morra and the one in Agliano.
The visit takes place inside the winemaking and aging facilities, where they will tell you about the history of the 6 generations and the family’s philosophy; you will then take a look at the vineyards from the courtyard and, if the weather permits, take a walk through the vineyard.
You will then be told about the characteristics that make this territory unique in the world through the wine tasting. You can choose from three options for the visit:
- Tour and tasting of four wines (including Nizza DOCG) → €20 per person
- Monferrato VS Langhe (Barbera d’Asti Superiore vs Langhe Nebbiolo, Nizza vs Barolo) → €35 per person
- Picnic in the estate’s meadows → €45 per person
In all cases you can choose to add a mixed platter of typical cured meats and cheeses to share among everyone, for the cost of €10 extra per person (by reservation).
