A story that
begins in 1862

in Canale

The origins of the Rabino family date back to the Middle Ages

The settlement in Roero, in the same lands that are still owned by the family today, followed the escape from the Alta Langa due to the frequent barbarian incursions.

Wine production began in the mid-19th century with a small production reserved for family and friends: a passion that still did not represent a profit.

It was then Luigi Rabino, grandfather of the current owner and subsequent descendants, who marketed the wines.

Already during the period preceding the world wars many of the varieties still produced were bottled.

Sharing, overcoming difficult historical moments of the twentieth century and increasing demand, have today made the company a reality in the Roero area with diversified and almost fully self-sustainable production.

The Wines

The Rabino company produces white and red wines representative of the territory

The Cavajè Sparkling Wine is one of the wines that’s “worth a trip” to the company.

It’s a Spumante Brut with an Arneis base, produced in the municipality of Canale by the Vigna Cavajè; one of a kind.

Created for those looking for a wine with a spicy aroma, ideal for accompanying an appetizer and for preparing cocktails with a sparkling wine. Excellent, savored after a meal.

The typical wines of Roero

Roero Arneis Gioca, with a straw yellow color tending to green and fruity flavors, differs from other whites for its longevity.

It goes well with fish dishes, appetizers and aperitifs, but it is also an ideal companion for vegetable dishes, white meats and cheeses.

Roero DOCG is the king of wines born from the best hills facing south-west.

Ruby in color with garnet reflections, it goes well with important red meats, such as shank and braised meat, and with all game.

Products

From the apricot harvest they obtain the artisan jam prepared according to an ancient recipe

The production is completed with the Tonda and Gentile quality hazelnuts of the Langhe, obtained from the 10 hectares of the owned hazelnut grove and with apricots.

These products are partly sold and partly processed.

Hazelnuts, shelled, toasted and put under vacuum, represent an excellent typically Piedmontese snack.

The apricots not sold on the markets are processed and transformed into jam by a small workshop in Chieri.

Apricot jam

Fragrant and with an intense flavor, the jam creates an excellent flavor contrast.

Try it combined with the typical Piedmontese toma.

Both products are served during the tasting and can be purchased in the cellar.

Breeding and sustainability

In the company there are 220 head of cattle whose feed is 70% self-produced. In the summer they feed the animals with fresh grasses from their fields, while in the winter they have a supply of hay. The animals ensure corporate sustainability by ensuring the supply of fertilizers used in the vineyard and in the orchards to minimize chemical interventions.

Visits & Tastings

Guests arriving in the cellar are always welcomed by a member of the family, usually Daniela or Adelaide

The visit begins from the vantage point with a detailed explanation of the surrounding ecosystem consisting of woods, vineyards and orchards.

The breeding and the winemaking rooms

Crossing the courtyard you reach the stable divided into different rooms that house 220 head of cattle.

The next step concerns the vinification and aging rooms, where the Roero DOCG and Barbera d’Alba DOC rest in wooden barrels.

Before carrying out the tasting, you’ll stop in the small crutin, a place dug into the tuff.

Here old labels are kept at a constant temperature all year round.

Barbera d'Alba DOC La Ciapa

A wine born in the second half of 2020

The surprise of the Rabino Company for 2020 is all in the Barbera d’Alba called La Ciapa.

The processing foresees an aging of 18-20 months in large French oak barrels, followed by a period in the bottle in order to reach the right maturation.

This wine is characterized by an intense ruby red color, tending to garnet with aging.

It offers aromas of coffee and spicy notes such as pink pepper and red juniper, up to the more fruity ones of cherry and plum.

It goes well with meat sauces and with important main courses.

Barbera d'Alba DOC

This wine, considered the wine of the people, is a vine that has made the history of Piedmont. Historically considered an extremely rustic wine, over time it has gained esteem from even the most demanding consumers
