Visiting the Massimo Rivetti winery means entering a welcoming, bright space designed with great attention to hospitality, to offer a smooth and engaging tour, where each area flows harmoniously into the next.

The territory and the estate’s philosophy

The winery is located a few kilometers from Neive, one of the most charming and evocative villages in the Langhe.

Production is inseparable from respect for the territory. The entire vineyard area of 25 hectares is managed organically: since 2009, the estate has stopped using insecticides and herbicides, obtaining full certification in 2016.

The plots are concentrated around the historic farmhouses Froi, Garassino, and Bussolino. Here, about 100,000 bottles per year are produced, with a strong emphasis on the great classics, including Barbaresco and Langhe Nebbiolo, alongside other traditional and international varieties.

Production, sustainability, and organic identity

The commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the architecture of the new winery, designed to be energy self-sufficient thanks to the photovoltaic system and equipped with a rainwater collection system.

The structure is partially underground: this solution takes advantage of the natural thermal regulation of the soil, maintaining an ideal and constant temperature in the aging and maturation areas, avoiding energy consumption for climate control.

A story that
begins in 2001

in Neive

The Massimo Rivetti winery is not just history, but also a clear vision focused on quality and sustainability

The Massimo Rivetti winery has its roots in the winemaking tradition of Neive. Today, it represents the fifth generation of the family dedicated to vine cultivation and the second committed to producing and marketing wine under its own label.

For a long time, the Rivetti family mainly sold grapes and bulk wine to other important wineries in the area, without undertaking bottling on their own. The decision to go independent came in the 1990s with increasing collaborations and experience.

In 2000, Massimo Rivetti launched the independent winery project, with the goal of vinifying and bottling his own grapes. The first vintage produced was 2001.

Initially, production took place in the family home. However, growing success and the need to expand led to an important step: in 2023, a plot of uncultivated land was purchased where the new winery was built. This modern facility now houses the entire production chain: from the production area to aging zones, to a welcoming tasting room.

The estate is run with passion by Massimo Rivetti and his wife Silvana, alongside their sons Andrea, Simone, and Davide Rivetti. Each of them actively contributes to the winery's success, dividing tasks among commercial management, vineyard care, and agronomic operations.

The Wines

Wines that tell the story of the richness and diversity of the Langhe territory

Each label is born from an organic and sustainable philosophy, with the goal of enhancing the quality of the vineyards and telling the story of the Langhe’s identity.

The Barbaresco DOCG

Barbaresco is offered in three interpretations, each with a distinct personality and a deep connection to the territory.

The Barbaresco DOCG Riserva A Silvana is a tribute to his mother, made from the best grapes of the historic Vigna Volpe, a one-hectare vineyard facing southeast and recognized as part of UNESCO heritage. After harvest, the wine rests in the cellar for ten years, five of which in 1,250-liter Slavonian oak barrels.

The Barbaresco DOCG Riserva Serraboella comes from the estate’s oldest vineyard, with vines about 60 years old. It is a careful selection within the prestigious Serraboella cru, vinified only in exceptional vintages. It ages for two years in French barriques (one-third new, two-thirds second passage), followed by another two years in 2,500-liter Slavonian oak barrels.

The Barbaresco DOCG Froi takes its name from the farmhouse of the same name and represents the most classic expression of the estate’s production. It is the result of a selection of the best vineyards surrounding the estate and is aged according to Piedmontese tradition in large 2,500-liter Slavonian oak barrels.

Alta Langa DOCG

A direct descendant of an ancient sparkling wine tradition dating back to the early second half of the 19th century, Alta Langa DOCG is a fully Piedmontese traditional method sparkling wine.

It is a sparkling wine that combines elegance and freshness, made from a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, grown in high-altitude vineyards at about 500 meters. Harvest is carried out during the coolest hours of the day, and the grapes are treated with dry ice to preserve their aromatic integrity.

After the first fermentation in steel, bottle fermentation takes place. The wine remains on the lees for at least 30 months, developing complexity, finesse, and a persistent perlage. This sparkling wine, an integral part of the Rivetti estate’s organic philosophy, is perfect as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with fish dishes or aged cheeses.

The Massimo Rivetti winery offers it in two versions: Alta Langa DOCG Extra Brut, Alta Langa DOCG Extra Brut Rosé.

Other whites and reds

The Barolo DOCG and the Langhe Nebbiolo Avene are wines of great structure and complexity, accompanied by three types of Barbera d’Alba, one of which is a Superiore Vigna Serraboella.

Among the wines with Langhe denomination are Langhe Garasin, Langhe Chardonnay Botticella, Langhe Pinot Nero, and Langhe Arneis Aurelia.

For those who love sweet and aromatic wines, Moscato d’Asti Maggiorina is the ideal choice: aromatic, balanced, and pleasantly fresh.

The estate also offers special and aromatized wines, such as China-aromatized wine and Vermouth di Torino, expressions of Piedmontese creativity and tradition in blending.

The farmhouses

The vines are silent witnesses to decades of winemaking history

The wine production of the Massimo Rivetti winery revolves around three farmhouses. Cascina Froi, in the municipality of Neive, is a true monument to viticulture. The estate is a legacy preserved since 1947, but its roots go back to the 19th century, an antiquity that makes it one of the most significant structures in the area, already mentioned in military maps of the time.

This is the heart of the estate, consisting of twelve hectares of vineyards, clustered around the winery and characterized by a south/southwest exposure.

This privileged terroir includes two sub-zones of particular value for the production of Nebbiolo for Barbaresco: Rivetti and Serraboella.

Here, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Moscato are also grown, in vineyards ranging from forty to seventy-five years old.

Cascina Garassino, located in the municipality of Mango, offers a group of vineyards with favorable southwest exposure, where Piedmontese varieties such as Arneis and Nebbiolo are grown, alongside prestigious international varieties such as Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay.

Completing the estate’s holdings is Cascina Bussolino, in Cortemilia.

Here, at an altitude of about 500 meters, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are grown for the production of Alta Langa Metodo Classico.

Organic farming

The estate follows a rigorous organic philosophy: no herbicides or pesticides, but manual mowing, sowing of natural essences, and insect management through mating disruption.
Harvest is manual with careful selection of the best grapes.
In the cellar, natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts and minimal use of sulfites are adopted; red wines are not filtered, to preserve the authenticity, character, and identity of the territory.
