At 400 meters above sea level, the village of Santo Stefano Roero is one of the highest municipalities in Roero.
The territory, characterized by hills rich in wooded areas alternating with vineyard areas, is known for the presence of the Rocche del Roero: a constantly evolving geological erosion phenomenon.
The Francesco Rosso farm, producer of high-quality Roero wines, is reached along scenic roads that offer views of a spectacular landscape, rich with small villages and characteristic towers, witnesses to human presence since ancient times.
At the helm of the family-run estate are the owners Francesco and his wife Maria. They personally accompany guests on visits and tastings of the estate’s production.
Current production is around 15,000 bottles per year, made exclusively with grapes from their own vineyards, producing Roero DOCG and Arneis, excellence of this territory, Nebbiolo and Barbera d’Alba (also available in Superiore versions), Langhe Rosso, Langhe Nebbiolo and Arneis Passito.
Promotion of the Italian quality wine sector
Francesco is one of nearly 1,500 members of FIVI, Italian Federation of Independent Winemakers.
It is an association that puts the winemaker at the center, understood as a figure representing the entire supply chain: from the deep connection with the territory, of which they feel custodian, to the glass, of which they are guarantor in direct relationship with the final consumer.

Francesco Rosso: Wineries Open Their Doors for Easter
Maria and Francesco welcome you to the winery with a special menu to give you an authentic experience among the flavors of Piedmontese cuisine and the aromas of their wines
Discover the event
The cellar, deliberately small in size, follows the philosophy of entirely family management
The name of this vineyard derives from the Piedmontese dialect and literally means Casa d’Andrea, from the name of the old owner of the house present among the rows
For this delicate operation, we rely on experience in picking the clusters and transporting them to the cellar in special ventilated containers.
A story that
begins in 2001
in Santo Stefano Roero
Francesco Rosso, a graduate of the Agricultural Technical Institute of Alba with a specialization in oenology and viticulture, follows in the footsteps of his predecessors who dedicated their working lives to agriculture in the Roero territory.
Although Domenico Rosso, Francesco's father, had favored the fruit and vegetable sector during his years of activity, Francesco's intention was to make viticulture the main activity.
A choice of continuity with the ideals of his grandfather Francesco, whose notebook, full of notes, is still present at the estate.
A keepsake to which the family is very attached, on whose pages seasonal trends and product prices are carefully noted, revealing the attention that was already paid in the middle of the last century to producing a good Nebbiolo.
The love for wine is a return to the past: with the restoration of old abandoned vineyards and the planting of new ones, the wine-growing activity has opened to the market with diversified wine production.
The estate is also dedicated to the cultivation and sale of fruits and vegetables: strawberries, peppers and the round and gentle Langhe hazelnut.
The intent is to offer healthy and genuine food and rediscover products grown naturally and healthily, following the footsteps left by predecessors.
The Wines
The Roero area is now fully recognized as a territory capable of offering unique excellence
The altitude, the exposure of the vineyards, the influence of the nearby Rocche del Roero and a soil that is predominantly sandy and gravelly on the surface, with silty clays at moderate depths, produce well-structured wines suitable for aging.
From the Cà d’Dreja vineyard, literally Andrea’s House, named after the former owner of a house among the rows, Roero Arneis, Barbera and Nebbiolo are produced.
Roero Arneis is also produced from the six-year-old Bastianetto vineyard and from the Suere vineyard located in Montà d’Alba.
The latter also produces Sauvignon and Nebbiolo.
Wines
One of the most representative wines of the estate is Nebbiolo, available in the versions Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC, Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC Superiore Bastianetto, Roero DOCG ‘Nciarmà and Roero DOCG Riserva.
The first, aged for at least 12 months in barriques and tonneaux, presents an elegant and intense aroma reminiscent of violet and rose.
It is a full-bodied wine that pairs well with first courses, red meats and cheeses.
Roero DOCG, aged at least 18 months in barriques and tonneaux, is complex and intense with hints of violets, red fruit compote and spices.
Because of its important structure, it is excellent with game, roasts, stews and braises.

Experiences
A small winery, family-run since the very beginning
Among the rows, the estate’s history, the territory and how exposure and natural elements influence the wine’s yield are introduced.
Work in the vineyard is done directly by the owners through sustainable treatments that respect nature and the consumer.
The tour continues in the winemaking and aging rooms where it is possible to taste wines directly from the barrel and visit the barrique cellar.
Here in barriques and tonneaux of different passage the Nebbiolo, Barbera and Passito mature for a period necessary for the wine to harmonize its components.
