The BAart space at theformer Brotherhood of St. Michael is hosting the painting exhibition “FACE – paintings on canvas” by artist Daniele de Lorenzo until Aug. 6.
Third exhibition on the calendar this year at the BAart space in Agliano Terme.
The Face project was conceived in 2020 during the lockdown as a painting on canvas, then also became a digital algorithmic process in 2024.
Through Face study the processes of movement and interaction within an enclosed space. Face is the frame within which “matter,” in a movement of continuous transformation, creates innumerable forms by recombining a limited number of simple elements.
The artist explains.
The investigation takes place within a checkerboard, continuously moving the 729 pixels that make it up: 54 black, 108 blue, 63 blue, 54 red, 81 yellow, and 369 light yellow. They are always arranged in different configurations, forming a representation of a face each time.
The artist
Daniele de Lorenzo(1973), born in Monza but Umbrian by adoption, attended theArt Institute in the small town of Brianza and in his early twenties was selected for the group exhibition of the 1st Trevi Flash Art Museum Prize at Palazzo Lucarini in Trevi.
Thus began an exhibition tour in Italy and abroad, which also included a publication with the PulcinoElefante Edition,“In a Laugh,” printed in 30 copies.
Alongside his artistic career, he also pursued studies in graphics and design, which he is still involved in today, thus also deepening his knowledge of computers, which would prove to be a congenial medium for his own purposes in the artistic field.
Daniele de Lorenzo has taken different creative paths over the years. These range from the virtuosity of pencil drawing to the xerography of the early1990s to the use of sound and technological systems that “tickle” the scientific world.
In 2017 he created the Pythagoras algorithm, which allows him to create countless patterns from processing numbers or entire number sequences.
The theoretical urgency often also drove him to engage in writing; in fact, he encapsulated notes and reflections in his journal from 1992 to 2001, printed in 2020 in 108 copies.
The space
BAart has joined the Asti Museums Foundation‘s Asti Museum Network.
Not only a place of culture and art, it is also the home of Barbera and the wines of Agliano, and those who visit BAart will be able to taste the producers’ labels, discovering the nuances and characteristics of each wine.
In addition to individual glasses, the Barbera Experience tasting packages, dedicated to the various types of Barbera, and Agliano Experience, which include, in addition to Barbera, the other wines produced in Agliano Terme, will be available for purchase. Reservations are required for groups.
Barbera ‘s art is told by the images and sounds of a video-art installation created by Vicenza-based MUVI Lab studio.
The voices of the Agliano Terme producers mingle with the sounds of nature, with its deep silences and unexpected pauses, recalling the powerful sound contrasts of the great classical composers.
Within BAart it will also be possible to see the video presentation of Agliano Terme, the docu-film on the production of Barbera d’Asti, which collects the stories and tales of the winemakers of Agliano Terme, and the video on Barbera d’Asti made in collaboration with the Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato.
BAart is also the reference point for those visiting the town and hosts an information space on tourist, cultural and food and wine activities in the Agliano Terme area.
