The Ghiga family has very deep-rooted farming origins dating back to the early 70s in Castiglione Tinella, an area particularly suited for cultivating Muscat grapes.
Mario Ghiga was the first to launch the business by producing most of its grapes to produce must intended for the production of this wine.
The wines
The Ghiga winery specializes in the production of the so-called Moscato with standard cork, the more genuine and artisan “version” of the DOCG wine that contends with the Asti Spumante, an industrial product made by multinational companies.
The Moscato d’Asti DOCG Ghiga is the result of a mixture of all the grapes harvested in various vineyards. Each provides a specific characteristic to the final product: fragrance, freshness, alcohol vol., sweetness, color, etc.
Every year we carry out the separate processing of each vineyard. The musts are then assembled prior to fermentation in proportions that vary from year to year, depending on the characteristics of each must.
At the Cantina Ghiga winery you’ll also find other wines that are symbols of the territory: the Langhe Favorita, the Barbera d’Asti and the Monferrato Dolcetto. Completing the offer is the Ultimo Grappolo , a white wine made from dried grapes and the rosé Volto Nuovo.
And finally, we make Grape Juice for the little ones, though highly appreciated even by adults; a drink made from pressed grapes, without alcohol and added sugars.
The visit to the winery
This is a unique experience that will allow you to discover the world behind the production of wine.
The visit starts with a walk in the vineyards to understand the grapevines, the production decisions and to get to know the territory.
We then move on to the cellar to discover the production process of the Moscato with standard cork which uses a different technique in comparison to the other Langhe wines.
To conclude the visit, you’ll be guided through the tasting of the wines by the producers in person. It’s the most exciting part of the visit where you can get involved and discuss your impressions and sensations with the Ghiga family.
