With its 400 meters of hight, the town of Santo Stefano Roero is one of the highest municipalities in Roero.
The territory, characterized by hills rich in wooded areas alternating with vineyards, is known for the presence of the Rocche del Roero: a geological phenomenon of erosion in continuous evolution.
The Francesco Rosso farm can be reached along panoramic roads that allow you to look out over a scenic landscape, full of small villages and characteristic towers, witnesses of the presence of man since ancient times.
At the helm of the family-run company are the owners Francesco and his wife Maria. It is their care to accompany guests in the visit and tasting of the company’s production.
Promotion of the quality Italian wine industry
Francesco is one of the nearly 1500 members of Fivi, the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers.
It is an association that focuses on the winemaker, understood as a figure who represents the entire supply chain: from the deep bond with the territory, of which he feels the guardian, to the glass, of which he is the guarantor in direct relationship with the consumer.
A story that
begins in 2001
in Santo Stefano Roero
Francesco Rosso, graduated from the Agricultural Technical Institute of Alba with specialization in oenology and viticulture, follows in the footsteps of his predecessors who have dedicated their working life to agriculture in the Roero area.
Although Domenico Rosso, Francesco's father, had favored the fruit and vegetable sector during the years of his activity, Francesco's will was to elect viticulture as his main activity.
A choice of continuity with the ideals of grandfather Francesco whose notebook, full of notes is still present in the company.
An heirloom to which the family is very attached, on whose pages are carefully written the seasonal trends and product prices, suggesting the attention that already in the middle of the last century was placed in the production of a good Nebbiolo.
The love for wine is a return to the past: with the restoration of old abandoned vineyards and the planting of new ones, the activity of winegrower producer has opened up to the market with a diversified wine production.
The company is also dedicated to the cultivation and sale of fruit and vegetables: strawberries, peppers and the Tonda e Gentile hazelnuts of the Langhe.
The intent is to propose healthy and genuine foods and to rediscover the products grown in a natural and healthy way following the footsteps left by their predecessors.
The Wines
The Roero area is now in all respects considered as a territory capable of offering specific excellence
The altitude, the exposure of the vineyards, the influence of the nearby Rocche del Roero and a soil that tends to be sandy and gravelly on the surface, with silty clays at not excessive depths, give well-structured wines suitable for aging.
The Roero Arneis, Barbera and Nebbiolo are obtained from the Cà d’Dreja vineyard, literally Casa d’Andrea, from the name of the old owner of a house present among the rows.
Roero Arneis is also produced from the six-year-old Bastianetto vineyard and from the Suere vineyard located in Montà d’Alba.
Sauvignon and Nebbiolo are also obtained from the latter.
The company wines
One of the most representative wines of the company is Nebbiolo, present in the versions Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC, Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC Superiore Bastianetto, Roero DOCG ‘Nciarmà and Roero DOCG Riserva.
The first, aged for at least 12 months in barriques and tonneaux, presents itself to the nose with an elegant and intense aroma reminiscent of violets and roses.
It is a full-bodied wine that goes well with first courses, red meats and cheeses.
Roero DOCG, aged at least 18 months in barrique and tonneau, is complex and intense with hints of violets, composed of red fruit and spices.
Due to its important structure it is excellent with game, roasts, stews and braised meats.

Visits & Tastings
The visit begins with a panoramic walk in the Cà d’Dreja vineyards
The company history, the territory and how exposure and natural elements influence the yield of the wines are introduced between the rows.
The work in the vineyard is carried out directly by the owners through sustainable treatments in respect of nature and the consumer.
The visit continues in the wine-making and aging rooms where it is possible to taste the wines directly from the cask and visit the barrel cellar.
Here in the barriques and tonneaux of different passage the Nebbiolo, the Barbera and the Passito mature, for a period necessary for the wine to harmonize its components.
Types of tastings
The tasting takes place in the historic 1930s farmhouse owned by Francesco’s family and can take place outdoors, in the barrel room or in the dedicated tasting room.
Passito will be available again from spring 2024, and you will be able to enjoy it paired with a dessert of our own making (hazelnut cake or chocolate salami) as part of some tasting sessions.
