Morra, Monvigliero, Mosca. The three letters “M” enclosed in the company logo tell and place the Diego Morra winery, which has been based in Cascina Mosca since the early 1900s.
The farm is located along the panoramic road that connects Alba and Verduno, a small village known as the sentinel of the Langhe, for its position as a historical garrison of the surrounding territory.
On these hills, dedicated to the cultivation of the Nebbiolo grape, the company produces some typical DOCs of the area: Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Langhe Chardonnay, Langhe Rosato, and four types of Barolo DOCG: Zinzasco, del Comune di Verduno, San Lorenzo di Verduno, and Monvigliero.
The latter is the flagship wine of the winery, whose name derives from one of the best cru in the Barolo sub-zones and especially Verduno.
The area is also the territory of choice for Pelaverga, one of the smallest DOCs in Italy, obtained from the eponymous Piedmontese black native grape variety.
The 3 intertwined ‘M’s’ represent and tell the identity, the company’s history and the territory within which the company is located

A story that
begins in 1950
in Verduno
With Diego Morra, the family has now reached the third generation of winegrowers.
Grandfather Domenico first and then father Antonio initially produced a small amount of wine for family consumption, delivering most of the grapes to local wineries.
Alongside the vineyard areas, the family has always owned land for other types of crops, including 20 hectares of hazelnut groves.
The company took on modern traits starting in 2006 with the completion of Diego's studies at the Umberto I° Institute, the oenological school of Alba.
The Diego Morra brand was then born.
In the following years, daily work was focused both on the search for a high-quality final product and on the expansion of owned land, selected through progressive acquisition processes.
In 2018, work began on expanding the cellar and the areas dedicated to hospitality and tasting.
A path of progressive growth, in a constant attempt to improve, with steady commitment and dedication.
The company philosophy is well reflected in the project that Diego and his wife Francesca lead along the path traced by previous generations: respect for tradition, for the territory and the consumer, attention to modernity, search for quality, balance, and elegance.
The Wines
The vineyards are mainly cultivated with Nebbiolo, but with attention to all the typical varieties of the area
The winery’s production offers the most representative wines of the territory, characterized by elegance, finesse, broad aromas, velvety tannins, and a hint of spice, always present and recognizable.
The vineyards represent the true heritage of the company and are located in the best crus of Verduno, La Morra, and Roddi d’Alba.
The most representative labels
The identity of the village of Verduno and the producer’s hand are reflected in the Barolo DOCG Monvigliero and the Verduno DOC Pelaverga.
The work in the vineyard and in the cellar is carried out personally by Diego, guided by the many years of experience of his father Antonio and assisted by his friend and colleague Davide Cavallo and Fidan Velkov.
Barolo DOCG Monvigliero
Barolo DOCG Monvigliero is produced with grapes from the four hectares owned in the eponymous and prestigious symbolic vineyard of Verduno: a soil consisting of white marls and optimal exposure allow for an elegant and unique product.
Within this prized sub-zone of Barolo, approximately 5,000 bottles are produced annually, obtained from the selection of grapes at their best point of ripeness.
Verduno DOC Pelaverga
Produced exclusively from two owned hectares, Pelaverga stands out for its fragrant aroma and naturally spicy and peppery notes.
These peculiarities are inherent in the DNA of the grape itself, thanks to a molecule called rotundone.
It is a wine known for its versatility, which pairs well with rustic dishes, cured meats and aged cheeses, first and second courses. Excellent as an aperitif and, if served chilled, paired with fish.
Wood yes… But with moderation
The production choice is primarily to emphasize the characteristics already present in the grape, avoiding masking them with excessive wood notes when this type of aging is chosen.
Aging in wood takes place in 500-liter French oak tonneaux and large barrels, choosing older wood for the Barolo DOCG and reserving new ones for a quick passage of Barbera d’Alba DOC and Langhe DOC Nebbiolo.

Situato in direzione nord-ovest rispetto a Verduno e completamente esposto a mezzogiorno, l’area costituisce una zona particolarmente vocata per la coltivazione del Nebbiolo da Barolo
The territory
Gentle slopes characterize a terrain favorable to the production of Barolo DOCG
Monvigliero is one of the most prestigious crus in Verduno and the entire Barolo area.
On this hill, bathed in sunlight throughout the day, are located 4 of the 16 hectares cultivated with Nebbiolo for Barolo.
The soil that characterizes it consists of blue-gray marls at depth and whitish on the surface, alternating with sandstones.
The vineyards, distributed in the shape of an amphitheater and planted by grandfather Domenico, have an average age of about 42 years, while more recent ones are the result of subsequent replanting.
The proximity of the Tanaro river flowing at the foot of the hill and the cool currents that rise during the night favorably influence the microclimate, ensuring proper ripening of the grapes.
The marls of Sant'Agata Fossili
The importance of the relationship with the territory and its ecosystems, in an attempt to preserve biodiversity and balance
Located in the north-west direction of Verduno and completely facing south, it is an area particularly suited for the cultivation of Nebbiolo da Barolo
Fiducia nel lavoro e nell’esperienza dell’uomo tramandata attraverso le generazioni sono alla base della filosofia aziendale
