Holidays
Roero, a hilly area located to the left of the Tanaro river, also, like the Langhe, a tourist destination in the eno-gastronomic and cultural field, has a harsh and partly wild nature, an area of choice for great DOCG wines, such as Roero and Roero Arneis.
Extending towards the provinces of Asti and Turin, it preserves an environment characterized by vineyards, woods and rock formations, the Rocche, a millenary geological phenomenon of erosion still in evolution.
Here, in the municipality of Vezza d’Alba, it is possible to visit the Patrunèt farm run by Claudio and Stefano with Monica.
The company is a member of F.I.V.I. an association that focuses on the winemaker, his deep bond with the territory of which he feels the keeper and his wine, in direct relationship with the final consumer.
A story that
begins in 1890
in Vezza d’Alba
Patrunèt tells a family story made of a passion for wine and for these hills
The typically Piedmontese name contains a curious fact: Patrunèt means, in Piedmontese dialect, little master.
This nickname, inherited from the great-great-grandfather of the current owners, tells the story of a young fourteen-year-old orphan who, having found work in the countryside with the Ferrero family, ended up marrying their only daughter.
Small owner, but also keeper of vineyards and a tradition handed down to this day, through his great-grandfather Giuseppe, his grandfather Stefano and his three sons, Giuseppe, Carlo and Piero.
The history of Patrunèt is similar to that of many other wineries: sale of grapes and bulk wine with a small part destined for bottling for family consumption.
With the awareness that the product obtained from Nebbiolo grapes would have obtained positive results, the search for new customers in Piedmont and Lombardy began.
The turning point took place after the war: all efforts were concentrated on affirming the Battaglino brand with the consequent increase in direct sales in the Cellar.
The change brought by Claudio and Stefano, today at the reins of the company, saw the recovery of the old family nickname, Patrunèt, a tribute to the ancestors and a sign of respect for a tradition to be maintained.
However, there is no lack of innovative spirit, made up of conscious choices implemented throughout the production process.
The Wines
The DOCG wines, Roero and Arneis, are the company's flagship wines, the maximum expression of Roero
Roero DOCG Vigna Violi
Produced with grapes harvested in Vigna Violi, named after the locality between Vezza d’Alba and the Occhetti di Monteu Roero hamlet, Roero DOCG has an excellent bouquet with hints of rose and violet.
The perfect south / west location of this 50 year old vineyard contributes to making the wine well structured, excellent to accompany important first and second courses.
Roero DOCG Arneis Vigna Camestrì
Each year these vineyards, with excellent south / west exposure and a mixed sandy-calcareous soil, produce a blond Arneis.
It gives sensations of freshness and pleasant acidity that can be maintained over time.
This gustatory effect makes it easy to drink. It goes well with appetizers, white meats, fish.
Due to its ability to cleanse the mouth, its marked acidity can be useful in combining foods with an accentuated fatness, such as some cheeses.
Interesting is the name given to the Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore Vigna Tifuran originating from the vineyard area between Vezza and Castagnito. Tifura or trifòla is the Piedmontese dialect term for truffles.
The reference is therefore directed to the truffle plants placed at the edge of the vineyard which in the past contributed to the origin of the precious underground mushroom.

Visits & Tastings
Different experiences to discover the company's wines and the Roero DOCG
Although the owners offer two types of tastings to allow their guests to get to know the products that Roero has to offer, it is possible, depending on the season and the weather, to agree on alternative experiences.
The experience includes a welcome in the cellar or at the nearby belvedere, where there is a convenient and ample parking.
Here we talk about the company, the territory and the work in the vineyard that passes through careful care of the vineyard, the conservation of biodiversity and the integrated fight to protect crops.
The visit to the cellar must have as its central moment the discovery and tasting of wine.

The company tour
The experience also includes a visit to the wine-making and storage rooms and to the room dedicated to aging where the wooden barriques are present.
During the summer and on request it is possible to take a walk among the rows of the nearby Arneis vineyard where there is a small ciabòt, a Piedmontese term that indicates a small building today mostly used as a tool shed, once with a shelter function.
The visit continues with a visit to the crutin, a small cellar dug into the tuff, with the function of pantry for the Langa peasants and the icebox.

Sustainability
A young reality with a past from which to take an example
The innovative cut desired by the owners also passes through sustainability, limiting the environmental impacts both in the vineyard and in the transformation processes, preserving and enhancing the wine landscapes to produce a good and healthy wine.
The Patrunèt revolution takes the form of a conscious choice of materials: innovative 100% biodegradable corks made from sugar cane and completely similar to the traditional cork.
Lightweight bottles are used due to the smaller quantity of glass, wrapped in the new and fine labels in recycled paper on which the company logo is present.
