Dolcetto d'Alba Doc 2010 - Oreste Stefano

November 15, 2011

In the heart of the Langhe hills, close to Monforte d’Alba, there is a family farm that makes wine since the 50s, following those good and simple techniques that were handed down over time.

I’m talking about  the Oreste Stefano winery, from which comes from this good wine I’ve just tasted: Dolcetto d’Alba D.o.c. 2010, the wine of conviviality.

This wine, produced “in purity” (only using Dolcetto grapes), attracts for its harmony and breadth of flavours.

Since it is young (2010), it’s perfect when consumed in the year that follows the production but it could be also well kept untill 2/3 years.

It is clear of an intense ruby red colour with light violet nuances.

Its bouquet is rich of perfumes, delicate and reminds of small red fruit as currants and cherries.

The taste is dry, not sweet (as the name suggests), nicely bitter at the end and quite warm (13,5 degrees of alcohol).

The acidity in it, typical of the grape, is well balanced with all the other components (sapidity, alcohool…) making the Dolcetto milder, also because of its fruity notes.

Since it’s a wine of everyday use we can combine it to simple tasty apertifs or appetizers based on cold cuts and middle aged cheese, salty vegetables pies, omelettes or fresh pastas ad gnocchi, noodles with meat ragù, mushrooms or cheese sauce, till white meat dishes.

It has to be served at a middle temperature of 14/16 degrees.

Have a good tasting!
