Terre Alte organizes a very special excursion in the Alta Langa area, whose hills, surrounded by emerald green and lush nature, are enveloped in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

An unusual Langa to be savored step by step!

The route and the territory

We will start from the historic center of Niella Belbo, a quiet and characteristic village in the Alta Langa, whose name Nigella ad Belbum, curiously enough, is said to derive from a plant, Nigella Sativa, native to the Middle East, which grows wild in the summer season among the crops of these high hills.

We will walk the imaginative Nigella Trail and part of the Sunflower Trail. “The characteristic of the Sunflower plant is that it always turns its head toward the sun just as the path of the same name we propose follows the course of the Sun from East to West.”

The particularly scenic Girasole trail runs along the hillsides of the Bormida Valley and Belbo Valley, touching places of rare natural beauty and great historical importance.

Ancient springs, cool woods that are home to precious botanical species, secluded little churches, silent Langa stone villages enrich an archaic landscape that the passage of time has not changed.

The route passes through the literary places that inspired the Alba writer Beppe Fenoglio: on these hills the most intense stories of his literary production came to life.

Art and Taste: Tremlett’s Wall Drawing and the Green Cafe

Upon returning to Niella we will be able to admire David Tremlett ‘s work “Linescape.”

The work that David Tremlett created on the old kindergarten of the Luigine Sisters consists of eight colors, four green and four brown, and is meant to represent the connection to the Alta Langa area.

The greens are the colors of the meadows and trees, the brown that of the earth, while with some white lines the artist wanted to give the perspective of the Langa hills.

Inside the old kindergarten, in the premises of the Green Café you can’t pass up an aperitif “Art Rule” with fine wines and excellent local products.
