An unforgettable hike in the scenic hills of Alta Langa, amid history and nature, a stone’s throw from the passes leading to the sea, through ancient paths where the air smells of aromatic herbs.
Let’s greet the month of July together with a hike with great scenic value that, starting from the delightful center of Murazzano, a true treasure chest of historical and scenic beauty, will lead us along ancient paths traveled in the past to reach the Sea.
Fresh woods, meadows and the scent of aromatic herbs will accompany our steps to discover a silent and secluded Langa that inspired writer Beppe Fenoglio’s most beautiful stories, a Langa traveled by pilgrims and merchants, and those seeking their fortunes in distant lands.
On the way we will reach the charming site where, surrounded by a forest of turkey oaks, stands the chapel of St. Pontius.
The sacred building, a valuable treasure chest of art, preserves a beautiful Romanesque apse, dating from the 11th-12th centuries, and an interesting cycle of apsidal frescoes attributed to Segurano Cigna created in the eighth decade of the 15th century.
A very pleasant country road will lead us to Marsaglia for a lunch break.
The small and delightful village in the Alta Langa Monregalese, enjoys an excellent panoramic position and is dominated by the bulk of the ancient castle, built in the 14th century and very well preserved today.
An ancient possession of the Clavesana family, it later belonged to the Marquises of Saluzzo.
The 1300 fortress recalls pages of struggle and history.
Marsaglia played a strategic role during the partisan war: on November 10, 1944, Allied planes parachuted large quantities of weapons and supplies here in support of the underground groups fighting for liberation.
