The Associazione Produttori Liseiret presents the project dedicated to the recovery of Liseiret, one of the oldest native grape varieties in Piedmont.

The meeting, through dialogue among institutions, research, and producers, aims to share the history of the grape, its great potential, and its future prospects.

The project

Founded in 2024 in Bossolasco by a group of producers from Alta Langa, Alta Valle Bormida, and the mountain areas of Piedmont, the project aims to protect, promote, and bring back into cultivation an ancient grape variety that had almost entirely disappeared.

Through collaboration among producers, researchers, technicians, and the territory, it seeks to restore Liseiret to a role in Piedmont viticulture and transform it into a concrete opportunity for the future of the high lands, while supporting biodiversity, the rural landscape, the identity of mountain communities, and the viticultural and territorial heritage.

The Liseiret grape

One of the oldest grape varieties in Europe, for centuries it was cultivated on the hills of Alta Langa, Alta Valle Bormida, and in other mountain territories of Piedmont, where it became part of the landscape and farming culture.

Progressively abandoned with changes in agriculture, it survived in a few vineyards thanks to the memory of winegrowers. Today it is among the varieties authorized for cultivation in Piedmont.

Genetic studies recognize it as one of the great progenitors of European viticulture: together with Pinot, it contributed to the origin of numerous celebrated grape varieties, including Chardonnay and Gamay.
