FusiI am Federica Abbona and together with my brother Massimo and our parents, we reveal the journey and the choices that intertwine to give life to our wine.

Our story has its roots in the hills of Dogliani, in the Santa Lucia hamlet, and reflects that of many realities in the area: we are a family-run business where every work choice, from the vineyard to the cellar, is shared.

Dogliani is not just the place of production of our wines: it is where we were born and raised and where we live. Our grandparents lived here and our parents live here. We are not a transplanted business and the connection with this territory is authentic, daily, natural.

What strikes most those who come to visit us at the winery is, first of all, the place: the road ends in our courtyard. Beyond there is nothing but vineyards.

Those who discover us for the first time, perhaps by chance, often return to visit us and this is how a sincere bond with people is created.

We are historic members of FIVI and promote values of transparency, passion, and responsibility

Our goal is to create harmonious and pleasant wines, capable of sincerely telling who we are and the territory from which they are born. In the cellar, we seek every day a delicate balance between innovation and tradition: the former allows us to grow, the latter connects us to our roots and to the experience of our grandparents.

A story that
begins in 1914

in Dogliani

Our story has its roots in the heart of Dogliani and reflects that of many realities in the area: a family-run business where every choice, from the vineyard to the cellar, is shared and experienced together.

Already in the time of grandfather Enrico, and even before that of our great-grandfather, the land represented the center of daily life. Between working in the fields and caring for livestock, wine was a constant presence, an integral part of authentic agriculture, made of balance and self-sufficiency.

Opening to the public came about spontaneously, when welcoming visitors to the cellar was still an uncommon practice. It was grandfather Enrico himself, with his natural charisma and extraordinary commercial spirit, who started this tradition.

In the years when the first tourists began arriving in the area, he would stop them in town and, between one chat and another, invite them to visit the cellar to share a glass of wine. From these simple and genuine encounters, word of mouth was born that, over time, transformed into lasting relationships, involving generations of families, friends, and enthusiasts.

1985 represents a decisive moment: Luigi, Enrico's son, chose to definitively orient the business toward viticulture, marking the official birth of the winery, then known as Abbona Luigi Enrico.

In those years, the sale of bulk wine and the first bottled productions coexisted, symbols of an evolution in progress. In the nineties, the name La Fusina took shape, chosen to stand out in an area where the surname Abbona is very common.

The inspiration came from a historical map from 1792, now preserved and displayed in the tasting room, in which the place where the cellar stands is indicated as Ca'Fusina, from the name of the family that lived there.

In that document, the oldest part of the structure can still be recognized today, and the vineyards are already traced, a sign of a winemaking vocation rooted for centuries. This connection with the past continues to live in the present: in the places, in the stories, and in the people who, even today, come back to visit us, keeping alive a thread made of memory, tradition, and belonging.

The Wines

We cater to both enthusiasts and those approaching wine with curiosity

Our wines follow a well-defined common thread: elegance, freshness, and great drinkability. They are designed to be uncorked and shared naturally, inviting the next sip and allowing themselves to be appreciated without the need for complex pairings or special occasions.

All wines available at the winery can be purchased and shipped to the desired destination.

We cater to those who love wine and, above all, to those who love sharing it in company, without worries.

The wines that best tell the identity of La Fusina are those most connected to the territory, particularly the Dogliani DOCG Superiore San Luigi Cavagnè, whose grapes are harvested in our winery’s historic vineyard, almost ninety years old and magnificently exposed to the south, and the Alta Langa.

The production of Dogliani DOCG has always represented a challenge: it is the most difficult to describe and to have appreciated, especially abroad, but precisely for this reason we continue to believe in it, being the thread that connects our story to our land of origin.

The production of Alta Langa was born from a choice, not from a trend. We started producing Metodo Classico when it still did not have the recognition and prestige we know today. The drive was completely natural: in our family we have always loved bubbles, and it is precisely from this passion that the desire to create our own was born.

Some wines are born from personal and family choices

The Langhe DOC Sauvignon, introduced in 2022 with limited production, was born from Massimo’s passion. It is a structured white, worked in wood, steel, and aged in bottle, with a symbolic label dedicated to our children.

The Langhe DOC Pinot Nero has a longer history: born in the nineties as a family bet, it was among the first in the area to be cultivated and vinified as a red, becoming a pioneering and identity-defining project.

The Barolo DOCG Perno was born about thirty years ago from a special encounter. Two family friends, owners of vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, proposed a long-term lease: we would create the planting and cultivate those vineyards over time. We accepted, laid out the rows, and brought the project to life. Even today, that bond continues to renew itself.

Completing the wine range: Langhe DOC Chardonnay, Langhe DOC Rosato Trabuc, Barbera d’Alba DOC, Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore La Castella, Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Langhe DOC Dolcetto L’Alteno, and Langhe DOC Barbera L’Angelina.

Experiences

The explanations are never overly technical, but designed to be an encounter

We open the doors of our winery to an Italian and international audience, telling who we are, without filters, because we believe that wine is first of all this: story, relationship and sharing.

Feeling at home, not in a tasting room

At La Fusina, the tasting is an authentic and family experience: our tasting room is the space where we live daily, with the wood stove lit during the cold months and the kitchen always lived in.

The visits are always guided by a family member, often me or my brother, sometimes our mother, who, with stories and firsthand experiences, makes everything even more engaging.

You will discover curious and interesting anecdotes such as the one related to the fantasy name of the Dogliani DOCG Superiore San Luigi Cavagnè that we will tell you during the journey through our history.

The tour begins in the cellar, where we share our experience, our work, and answer questions. Those who wish can stroll among the surrounding vineyards before venturing among barrels and tonneaux.

Experiencing the territory

Markets, traditions, and itineraries between nature and culture to discover the authenticity of the territory

Nestled in the Langhe, Dogliani is a town with authentic charm, between the lively village in the valley and the ancient Dogliani Castello perched on the hill.

Strolling through its streets, you discover panoramic views, historic architecture, and testimonies of Giovanni Battista Schellino, such as the Church of Saints Quirico and Paolo, the neo-Gothic cemetery and the museum dedicated to the second President of the Republic Luigi Einaudi.

Dogliani is lively and animated: weekly markets, food and wine fairs, and local traditions make the cultural and sensory experience unique.

Nature lovers can follow itineraries through hills and woods, on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, or with snowshoes in winter.

Thanks to its strategic position, Dogliani is also the ideal starting point for exploring the Langhe and nearby villages such as Barolo, Monforte d’Alba, Novello, and Alba.

Special experiences and tailored activities

Alongside classic tastings, we are developing more elaborate experiences, connected to the landscape and well-being. In spring, for example, we hosted corporate team building events, with arrival by e-bike, a visit to the cellar, and a final tasting. We are also working on the idea of themed events, such as outdoor yoga sessions followed by a tasting, to be organized on specific dates. Not fixed experiences, but special appointments, designed for those who want to experience the winery in a different way, immersed in silence, in the greenery, and in the rhythms of nature.
