The activity takes about 3-4 hours, of which 45-60 minutes are spent flying. The rest of the time includes the briefing, balloon preparation, and post-landing activities.

What certifications does the operator hold?

Milano Mongolfiere, founded by Riccardo and Birgith, has long-standing experience in the aviation industry. It is ENAC-certified for passenger transport and is a flight school recognized under EASA standards.

How does a hot-air balloon move?

Unlike airplanes and helicopters, a hot-air balloon has no steering wheel or rudder to change direction. The pilot controls its altitude, rising or descending to take advantage of air currents blowing in different directions. It's the wind that determines the route: the pilot chooses the most favorable currents and finds a suitable landing spot. This is why every flight follows a different path, and the landing point can't be determined precisely before departure.

From France to the Langhe: the tradition of hot-air ballooning

The history of hot-air ballooning begins in France at the end of the 18th century, with the first flights of the Montgolfier brothers. Over time, this discipline found a particularly favorable home in Lower Piedmont. Mondovì plays an important role, now considered Italy's hot-air balloon capital, thanks to favorable atmospheric conditions and a microclimate suited to flying. The town has become a reference point for flight schools and international gatherings, helping to consolidate Piedmont's ballooning tradition.
