Fabio Oberto

Wine Producer in Guarene

Fabio Oberto is a small-scale winery dedicated to the production of high-quality, limited-run wines typical of the Langhe and Roero.

The philosophy of Fabio, the owner, is centered on looking to the future with full respect for tradition:

We produce about 15,000 bottles of prestige a year, all the result of experience, commitment and passion. Our heroic vineyards, operations office and store in Guarene offer a complete wine experience.

La Collina di Dioniso and the point of sale

La Collina di Dioniso is a project focused on the distribution and marketing of quality wines, created in 2016 by Fabio and Lorenzo, his partner.

In the Guarene store, it is possible to buy local classics produced by them, as well as bottles from other wine areas, from wineries they know personally. Hence their motto “global vision, local roots.”

The intention is to meet the needs of all customers, including those looking for out-of-town wines.

The Wines

The production of excellent labels

Fabio Oberto puts passion and commitment into producing iconic local labels.

Work and treatments are done exclusively by hand. Some of the rows reach 70 years of age and continue to give satisfactory harvests.

The Barolo DOCG

A prestigious wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes from selected vineyards, capable of evolving over time and perfect for those seeking structure and complexity.

It pairs perfectly with Piedmontese cuisine based on important main courses, such as roasts, and first courses with strong flavors.

In addition to the “basic” version, Fabio produces two other labels: the Barolo DOCG del Comune di La Morra and the Barolo DOCG Perno.

The other reds

Barbera d’Alba DOC Superiore Ilaria was created for lovers of full-bodied, velvety wines and is recommended throughout a meal, even with chocolate desserts.

Langhe Nebbiolo represents a great classic and is made from grapes harvested in the sandy vineyards of Montaldo Roero. It is elegant and refined, endowed with aromatic complexity and enveloping flavor texture.

Completing the reds is Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, suitable for all lovers of fruity wines that can also be drunk in summer, slightly chilled.

The Langhe Nascetta DOC

A still white wine ennobled by a long aromatic persistence and extremely versatile.

Its aroma is intense, fruity and floral, and the taste is dry, well-structured and pleasantly acidic.

Nascetta is the only native white grape variety in the Barolo Langa, and its cultivation was reintroduced in the 1990s following its rediscovery.

The cultivation of nebbiolo

Among the vineyards of the Langa Monregalese and Roero.

Fabio Oberto pays special attention to the cultivation of his nebbiolo vineyards in Vicoforte, a town known for its historic and imposing sanctuary, just a stone’s throw from the Langa Monregalese.

The goal is to explore the potential of farming at a high altitude, 500 meters above sea level.

The distinguishing characteristic of this area is greater humidity than in the Langhe: rainfall is more frequent here and cold currents come from the mountains.

In these increasingly hot and dry summers, the Vicoforte soil represents a challenge, but also a hope and a new frontier in the future of viticulture in Piedmont.

The project came about through collaboration with Massimo Martinelli, a friend and influential figure in the history of wine in this area, with agronomist expert Dino Bevione and with winemaker Sergio Molino.

Cultivation in Montaldo Roero

In the municipality of Montaldo Roero, nebbiolo is grown on an area of 3 hectares.

Part of these vineyards are worked exclusively by hand: the hill is very steep, the rows are narrow, and it is not possible to pass with tractors and farm vehicles.

Roero’s sandy soil allows roots to penetrate deeply, allowing the vine to absorb nutrients more easily.

The resulting wine is distinguished by a very typical distinctive aroma, donated by the characteristics of the soil.

Heroic vineyards

A curiosity that distinguishes all of the company's soils is the average slope of more than 30 percent, which is why they have been included in the list of heroic vineyards in the Piedmont region. To be defined as "heroic," a vineyard must meet at least one of the following criteria: be very steep, be at an average altitude of more than 500 meters above sea level, or have vine plantings arranged on terraces and steps. These characteristics present significant challenges for winemakers, but at the same time, these unique conditions offer wines that tell stories of courage and dedication.
