The church of santa Maria del Piano

Santo Stefano Roero –  In the little Borgonuovo village, a five-floor bell tower is the sign of the ancient church of Santa Maria del Piano, builtin the Roman era on the remainings of a temple deicated to Diana.

In 1404 the church was used as a benedictine monastery; it was then given to the Santa Fruttuaria abbey by the emperor Arrigo.

It was knocked down in 1867, but the tower (today a national monument) and the sacristy are still standing.
