Scavalcamontagne is a theatrical initiative that crosses villages, hills and valleys on foot to bring a different show every evening to where theater no longer reaches.

Every step is a scene, every encounter an applause.

Rise and Walk

At the Inn of Rediscovered Steps, the stories of many traveling characters intersect: pilgrims, peddlers from times past, alpine soldiers, emigrants, wanderers.

A universe of stories that moves on foot, among folk songs, oral narratives and shared memories.

A show that is also a collective journey, where every step brings to light forgotten passages of humanity.

An interweaving of voices and paths that restores value to slow walking, to encounters, to the spoken word… always and in any case on foot.

The Scavalcamontagne project

Scavalcamontagne is an independent and self-funded initiative that creates a dialogue between theater, landscape and community.

Every tour takes place on foot, with backpacks, musical instruments and light scenery.

The stages are chosen to enhance villages, valleys and mountain huts often forgotten by the traditional cultural circuit.

In the mornings we walk, in the afternoons we discover our host countries, and in the evenings we go on stage in their beautiful squares.

Genealogy

The project was born in the lockdown days of 2020.

In the midst of stillness and deprivation of physicality, a group of artists imagined the future and asked “how could we make culture?“.

Then on the horizon the possibility opened up, albeit timidly, to start moving again and the project took shape with the idea that culture could be brought to the people in the simplest and most ancient way.

The name Scavalcamontagne is a tribute to the small touring companies of the past that performed in peripheral theaters, up and down Italy, even having to climb over mountains, such was the distance traveled to bring their shows to the public.
