On the occasion of Vinum visit a winery: producers tell you their story and let you taste their wines. The best way to fully enjoy the event and get to know the small local realities.
Fabrizio’s winery is located in Vezza d’Alba, and his vineyards stand on one of the highest hills of the Roero.
From here, the difference between this yet-to-be “tamed” land and the combed hills of the Langhe, which after decades of monoculture have little in the way of wildness, is clearly visible.
The vineyard area has 5 hectares of vines, allowing for family management and, above all, attention to the smallest details of the entire production cycle.
In the vineyard, nature grows vibrant and lush, you’ll notice while walking among the vines: Fabrizio does not use herbicides and is committed to keeping chemical treatments to a minimum.
The peculiarity of the winery
To age his wines, Fabrizio uses only barrels.
The choice falls on necessities dictated by the small size of his winery, but this does not exclude a long period of experimentation and experience that convinced him to continue on this path.
Well aware of thecommon opinion about this aging method, Fabrizio is determined to change the minds of anyone who visits him.
His barrel-aged wines are balanced, elegant and tell the story of the grapes they are made from without letting the toastiness of the barrel speak for itself.
The tasting
To put the result to the test, at the end of the visit, you will taste the wines together with Fabrizio, sometimes helped by his wife Monica or children Elena and Simone.
In addition to learning about the history of each label, you will examine the Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC Paradi’ and Roero DOCG Colla.
Both vinified from nebbiolo grapes grown in soils with different exposures, they follow the same passages in barrique, for the same period and in barrels of the same age. The result, however, is extremely different.
Wine tasting is accompanied by small appetizers of local products such as cheeses, cured meats, and homemade focaccia baked in a wood-fired oven.
And if you liked the wines, at the end of the visit you can buy them at favorable prices, possibly opting for shipping the purchased wine directly to your home.
