Landscape, colors and flavors.
An unmissable autumn event departing from one of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages, in the hills of the prized Barbaresco and Moscato wines to reach the historic center of Mango in celebration.
…That Neive is part of the circuit of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” cannot come as a surprise: just admire the medieval layout of the historic center, with its characteristic red-roofed houses overlooking the alleys, leaning against each other.
Then, here rise other ancient vestiges of the past: the Clock Tower, the last vestige of the ancient castle, the baroque Arcinconfraternita di San Michele with its precious wooden portal, the Casa Cotto with its fine 13th-century ceilings and fireplaces.
Outside the village, then, along the Tinella stream, we will take the road to Mango, an artistic Romanesque bell tower rising among the countryside to announce the striking Church of Santa Maria del Piano. Passing through woods and vineyards we will reach the village of Mango, a scenic town of ancient origins: it is believed that Mango already existed in Roman times, with the name Mangiana Colonia, a toponym mentioned in Trajan’s Tabula alimentaria.
It was originally a military settlement whose function was to supply provisions to imperial veteran troops.
The village is dominated by the majestic bulk of the castle used for centuries as the summer residence of the Marquis of Busca.
The medieval festival and the flavors of tradition
During this day, Mango dresses up for a party, or rather dresses itself in history, offering visitors medieval music, shows and, from 11:30 a.m., a tasting of typical dishes accompanied by excellent local wine: inside the castle is home to the Enoteca Regionale del Moscato.
The return to Neive will touch on panoramic points of great scenic and literary interest.
A good glass of wine in one of the wine shops in the charming historic center is highly recommended.
Mango, Bricco Avene and others places we will visit, are cited in the works most important of the writer from Alba Beppe Fenoglio.
