In its first edition, the long-awaited competition reserved for cheeses from the Piedmont Region will be held at the headquarters of the Piedmont Milk Cooperative in Savigliano and at Grinzane Cavour Castle on June 10 and 11, 2023.
The aim of the initiative, carried out byONAF (National Organization of Cheese Tasters), is to enhance the regional dairy heritage, bringingattention to the quality, variety and spread of local dairy products, enhancing their biodiversity, with contributions from Banca d’Alba, CRC Foundation, Sacco System.
La local cheese production takes place in a rich and diverse territory, spanning from the plains to the hills up to the mountain, where cattle, goat and sheep breeding has always been a resource from the livestock point of view and contributes to the creation of a wealth of products, most of them recognized with PDO, PGI, PAT and DE.CO. marks.
The competition
The contest was created with the aim of enhancing and better disseminating knowledge of cheeses from Piedmont, following the success of those held over the years for cheeses from the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Alessandria.
The products entered will be evaluated by a national jury of Master Tasters, characterized by the seriousness and professionalism that sets us apart.
Through the website, producers and ripeners can, if they meet the requirements, register for the competition and participate in the first edition of the Festival, to reach the coveted goal of the best Piedmontese cheese 2023.
Cheeses from producers and ripeners in the Piedmont Region that comply with current EU and national regulations and are accompanied by a data sheet, after approval by the Competition Secretariat, are admitted to the competition.
The festival will take place in Savigliano (Cuneo) on Saturday, June 10, 2023; the award ceremony will take place at the prestigious Onaf Headquarters at the Grinzane Cavour Castle, a UNESCO site, on the following Sunday, June 11, 2023.
