Abitare il piemontese is a journey into the language and culture of Piedmont through the words that have moved through the daily life of local communities. Paolo Tibaldi brings to the stage the project born in 2015 and brought together in the book published in 2026, a collection of the files created in nine years of research and storytelling.

Words as a story

For Tibaldi, a word is not just a word: behind its meaning are hidden stories, people, traditions, and a particular way of looking at the world. Piedmontese thus becomes the starting point for telling the story of education, work, feelings, food, and the daily life of the peasant civilization.

The volume follows an alphabetical order, but it does not intend to be a dictionary. In fact, words change depending on the areas, the villages, and the families, preserving pronunciations and variants that tell of the richness of the Piedmontese language.

One language, one community

Paolo Tibaldi’s narrative is born from the encounter with people and the stories collected over the years. Recovering Piedmontese thus means recovering a part of the collective memory, not to stop at the past, but to better understand the present and look to the future.

Accompanying the narrative are the words, anecdotes, and expressions that have contributed to giving shape to the imagination of the Piedmontese civilization.
