A scapegoat was needed.

As always, as with every war, someone was needed to point the finger at.

The casus belli of 1914 was Gavrilo Princip.

In 1990 no one had fired yet (at least in a real sense).

A smoking gun was needed: what better occasion than a missed penalty kick in a World Cup quarter-final?

The failed penalty taker is named Faruk Hadžibegić, an elegant defender of the Yugoslav national football team.

He doesn’t yet know that on June 30, 1990, at dinner time, when Sergio Goycochea, goalkeeper for Maradona’s Argentina, saves his penalty, the catastrophe is about to begin.

Or perhaps it has already begun.

But, precisely, a scapegoat is needed. And Faruk is the perfect sacrificial victim.

The terrible story of the War in the Former Yugoslavia told from a deeply human perspective: the burden of responsibility of each individual story within the design of History.

A line that divides the world in two: the private from the historical, the intimate from the intimidating.
